Mexico State researchers believe gel that prevents corrosion of steel.

Researchers at the University Center Mexico Valley, created a gel with extract of aloe vera leaves prevents corrosion and consequently the process of wear steel.

The researcher at the University Center in the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico, Hector Herrera Hernandez explained that it was using the technique of Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, the success of the gel was determined.

The technique uses AC signals applied to electrodes, which enabled to evaluate the corrosion resistance in the presence and absence of the gel, making hundred percent inhibit steel corrosion.

"Currently, there are several methods of prevention and protection of reinforced steel structures, which aims to increase its durability; however, these procedures are expensive and technically questionable with respect to durability and quality of repair "said researcher.

Gel application meets the needs of sustainability, by inhibiting the corrosion process inevitable in reinforced concrete structures, because even the ingress of water and contaminants in crevices.
