Techno- Report #08 - The intelligent city

in #technology6 years ago

Hi Steemit family!

source

Perhaps one of the most awaited news in 2018 was the start of the Sidewalk project that aims to build what would become the first intelligent city in the world, many thought they would take a pre-built space to do the work, but the reality is that they took a vacant space in the city of Toronto in Canada, and the basic idea is that nothing resembles the cities as we know them.

source

Sidewalks labs is a subsidiary company of Alphabet (Google), which as well as this companies, have a few more accounts that are in charge of intimately investigating technologies that can be applied to our daily life. This has undoubtedly attracted a considerable number of investors who are in the wave of artificial intelligence.

So Sidewalk Labs is an urban reorganization company that is in charge of giving technological solutions to cities.

Sidewalk Toronto

About 3 years ago they had in their sights the port of Toronto, which has an unurbanized area of more than 5 hectares, enough to implement the plan that Alphabet came to the company that was responsible for materializing this city.

Quayside

This is the name they chose for this intelligent city, their proposal is that it be totally autonomous, highlight the innovative proposals to build houses faster, cheaper and with non-polluting materials, with an electrical system of internal mobilization, pointing towards cleaner air.

source

Inside its portal we will be able to see how is the chronogram of activities that will make to rise to this city, approaching us a little too as it will be in aesthetic terms the different atmospheres that it proposes.

Their ambition for the well-being of the inhabitants is considerable if we take their calculations, for example, they want the rent to be 50% cheaper than anywhere else, reduce CO2 emissions by 85% and create more than 9,000 jobs in construction, 3,900 of them permanent.

source

All right, so far the city of Quayside, it looks like it will be phenomenal, everything looks good, but. Being an intelligent city it is to be expected to use a lot of data, more than we imagine.

Being completely intelligent will always be connected to a database, regulates traffic, and this is where I do not like the idea much, we will have no option to that is not so, so this is a city where privacy will not be the center of attention.

Many may love this, but the reality is that by restricting privacy to nothing, there is not much security left of our precious individual integrity.

source

They want it to be "better for us," but there are those who don't see it that way, and those who care about privacy would have a problem in the smart city of Toronto. According to some sources who have worked on the project, the system will know everything unless we explicitly ask otherwise. In other words, we don't have privacy as our default option.

source

I don't think the project is bad, but Google and some social networks have had problems with a large sector of the population to look at our information, rather would not be a bad idea a city based on the blockchain, where everything will be transparent but with the option of ourselves to control our privacy. Let's see how long it takes to build the city and if they achieve all their goals.

This sounds like a cool project, but i agree that there would be no privacy from industry that wants our virtual information. Scot wants to have our Alexa to have acces to the lights, tv, and locks. I am just not ready for that so now we have this little round disk that does nothing more than tells a joke and the weather. No, I'm just not ready.

Good post and thanks so much for sharing.
