PowerWindow: Dutch Innovation Turning Buildings into BIG Solar Cells
The race for object integrated solar cell solution is on!
Yet another strong innovation from the Dutch: PowerWindows!
How It Works?
Solar rays hitting the window are re-directed to the side of the windows where solar cells integrated in the window frame converts the solar light into energy. The re-direction of the solar rays are done through a special coating.
“The coating itself concentrates the light and sends it to the sides, something which sets us apart from our competitors.”
100% Invisible Solution
Last year, the Dutch startup Physee, created a 100% transparent coating that shall be the bases of future smart energy buildings. A unique approach:
Unlike some of its competitors, PowerWindow doesn’t rely on high-tech solar cells inside the glass.
Already some years ago, students from the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, developed coatings allowing the re-direction of solar light. At first, this coating was transparent, but with a colour, eg red or blue. This coatings turned windows into a coloured window. Since coloured windows may only be acceptable for (some) office buildings, they guys ultimate goal was to develop a 100% transparent coating. And so they did!
Our first sustainable innovation without compromise is our PowerWindow. A PowerWindow is a fully transparent and colorless electricity-generating window. PowerWindows put users in direct contact with sustainable energy at home, at work or traveling.
