#5 Daily dose of tech - cloud storage

in #technology7 years ago

Monday, funday, new dose of tech.

For today's post I prepared small presentation of most popular cloud storage providers. I'm using almost all of them as I really like to keep things safe and also have lots of pictures which take lots of space. Of course I'm not relying only on cloud providers but have files saved locally as well.

Google drive

https://www.google.com/drive/

15GB free

100GB - 1.99$/month

1TB - 9.99$/month

10TB - 99.99$/month

I like Google drive as it has lots of tools available for its platform. Docs, Sheets and Slides are pretty straightforward to use and allow different export options. Then there's also Google Drawings, Google Forms and over 100 other apps that you can get from Chrome Web Store. Works well with Windows, iOS, MacOS and Android.

Apple iCloud

https://www.apple.com/icloud/

5GB free

50GB - 0.99$/month

200GB - 2.99$/month

2TB - 9.99$/month

I own couple Apple devices and 5GB starter cannot even handle two backups. Files are getting bigger but Apple doesn't care. It is although the best option for Apple device owners as it integrates nicely into iOS. Pages, Numbers and Keynotes are available on all devices and keep your work in sync. Works well with Windows, MacOS and iOS.

Microsoft OneDrive

https://onedrive.live.com/

5GB free

50GB - 1.99$/month

1TB + Office365 - 6.99$/month

5TB + Office365 - 9.99$/month

Biggest advantage of Microsoft's plans is probably Office365 subscription which allows you to install apps like Word, Excel and PowerPoint to multiple devices and keep you work in sync. Works well with Windows, iOS, MacOS and Android.

Box

https://www.box.com/

10GB free

100GB - 10$/month

Only two tiers for personal use but 10GB free is still better than nothing. Lots of integrations (Slack, Office365, Google Docs, Salesforce...) makes it really powerful. Mobile and desktop app for all platforms.

Dropbox

https://www.dropbox.com/

2GB free

1TB - 8.25$/month

2TB - 12.50$/month

Small amount of free space makes Dropbox look like a poor choice. But it's simple interface makes it super easy to use, furthermore Dropbox was also one of the first cloud storage providers (initial release 10 years ago). Mobile and desktop app for all platforms.

Mega

https://mega.nz/

50GB free

1TB - 9.99€/month or 99.99€/year

2TB - 19.99€/month or 199.99€/year

4TB - 29.99€/month or 299.99€/year

50GB free! Mobile app for all mobile platforms and MEGAsync for all desktop platforms. Also public source code for geeks between us.

If you have any other good suggestions for cloud storage provider let me know. I like to keep things in multiple places and like to try new solutions.
