Playing with @steemychicken1's new 3d printer

in #technology6 years ago

Good morning everybody! It's a meee @drifter1! Yesterday I was busy playing with @steemychicken1's new Prusa i3 MK3 3d printer (which is fully assembled). It all started with a simple message in the morning by the God of cats and chickens saying: "Say, do you have time for 3d printing?". I was like hmmm, and well, and I dont know, but then he finally showed up with the following boxes (while I was downloading the drivers with my shitty internet):

I was like: "well I think the Univesity task has to wait for some Days again hahaha". Opening the big box up we started laughing. You won't believe what they put in there!

At least the Haribo kept the little ones busy! :D

We found a little table and put the 3d printer on that table close to my computer (to be able to connect it directly to the computer later on, for easier and faster printing)...

The printer came with a printed logo that became of great use as a table stabilizer for our first print. Of course at first we chose to print something that was included as a sample model and was already inside of the included sd/tf card. One of the "fast" prints is the whistle with a JP logo on it. The printing came out pretty well and the whistle is also loud af. Baaad choice as children gifts! Remember my sayings!!!

After that, the whole day was printing and testing...and printing!

We started with a Pug (buddy example) that came out well.

Printed two failed "better" whistles that we should have placed horizontally instead of vertically, but still they make a quite nice sound. You can see the broken/misplaced keychain circle and also small wholes throughout the surface.

We tried to change into the transparent PLA, but had problems setting up in the software, and so continued on printing with the grey PLA material. Getting into the orange material was impossible, cause the filament stand was to small. Printing out a new one is an idea, but we are still searching for a good one :)

Just for you to have an idea here some pictures of the included software and the sample model/object folder :D

Software:

  To connect to the printer

To create the needed Gcode files for printing

The Sample Objects/Gcodes:

After changing back to the grey PLA material we printed the Batman symbol, a cat smartphone stand and a fully working gear keychain!

During the night I let the printer print out the "bigger" dragon example, which took ruthly 7 and a half hours to make. I only took a picture before midnight and then the final result! As you will see in the pictures following up it came out really nice!

The story goes on today. More and better printings are yet to show up!
