School Plans to Replace All Cafeteria Workers With Robots
The Orange County Community College is an upstate New York college that is now looking to fully replace their cafeteria staff with self-serve vending machines and robots.
According to reports, the school saw a deficit last year of roughly $150,000 for its food operation services. Many of the students are said to be against the changes and the decision means that nine cafeteria workers are going to be let go.
According to the Orange County Community College Association which is a nonprofit that takes care of managing the cafeteria, their executive director says that if they didn't make these necessary changes then they were going to potentially be out of business with a year or so.
A number of high-schools and other facilities have already looked toward implementing this sort of technology in their venues as well. The prevalence of this technology is growing and in several years it might become the norm with high-schools and colleges etc, just as we have seen in the fast food industry with McDonald's and others.
This isn't the only place that we have seen robots start to come to market to work in the area of customer service. They've already started serving customers in a number of hotels and restaurants around the world, as well as making deliveries right to your door.

sick shit. My close friend works for Buffalo public schools as the Cafeteria Manager. It's a union job - surely they will be close after in this adventure. This is a violation of Natural Law - theft of the ability to work - they will pay by the law of cause and effect - we are all paying for the NL violations now...but we did this when we moved jobs to China -
you aren't owed a job though... So it isn't theft of anything. Employment is a contract between two parties, both parties should be free to end that contract whenever they'd like, for reasons such as this - budget/monetary concerns. Like they said, if they would've continued those people would have lost their job anyways regardless if the robots came in.
*in any case, it's terrible to see someone lose their job. 😱
