Public Bathrooms In China Start Using Facial Recognition TechnologysteemCreated with Sketch.

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

The public bathrooms in China have started using facial recognition technology in order to determine how much toilet paper a person can use. The technology dispenses one 60cm section of paper every nine minutes; after an individual scans their face.

The authorities there are said to be overly annoyed with the theft of toilet paper from the public bathrooms and that is said to be the reason for implementing the facial recognition measures. The move is said to be only one of many that is planned in order to try and upgrade the public facilities in the country.

It's reported that for now it is only the bathrooms in the nation's capital.

Tourist authorities in the country are said to be heavily focused on revamping the bathrooms at popular tourist sites because they have become infamous for their worsening conditions over the years.

They are looking to greatly improve the facilities so as to try and promote more tourism in the country. They acknowledge that the public has higher expectations for facility conditions than that which are currently being met.

Their new initiative was launched over 2 years ago and there are plans for at least 34,000 new public bathrooms to be constructed just in Beijing, with another 23,000 being renovated this year.

They've already allocated at least $3.6 billion to the project, by estimates from the National Tourism Administration.

Chinese are smart people > I am sure they could have or even thought of how to reduce toilet paper usage.

Oh my! You can count on China to demand you submit to facial recognition... in exchange for toilet paper. I would hope one's price would be higher than that LOL.

how much toilet a person can use.

... ?

LOL! fixed! thanks for catching that!:)

i have make sure i have full face photos of a few different people on my mobile phone when i go there. :-)

Haha... then you get it.

It could be worse, at least they're not using genital recognition 😱

almost every public toilet i've been to in China requires an extra fee for paper. lol . No Frills.
Most peoples smart phone gives up the info of when you are in the Loo.

More external control = More internal anarchy
This will not help the "situation" lol
