Ford Comes Out On Top In Self-Driving Car MarketsteemCreated with Sketch.

Uber, Tesla, and other companies, have some tough competition when it comes to the race for getting self-driving cars on the road. It's been estimated that by 2020 there might be something like 10 million or more self-driving cars already on the road.

Aside from well-known corporate giants in the self-driving car space like Uber, Google, and Tesla, there are many other well-known brands which are also looking to incorporate the technology: GM, Volkswagen Group, Volvo, BMW, Mercedes, and others.

Ford has displayed their own interest in moving forward with embracing self-driving car technology.

In fact, a new research report shows that they might even be ahead of the competition.

According to a recent report from Navigant, it's estimated that Ford is ahead of roughly 17 other companies at the moment; in the area of automated self-driving vehicles.

This means that they are ahead of companies like Google's Waymo, Uber, and many others.

It's important for Ford and other car companies to embrace new technology if they don't want to be left behind and Ford has a clear game-plan it seems. Navigant analyzed the progress for each company based on their vision, market strategy, technology, reliability, and other factors.

The Vice President of Product Development for Ford, Raj Nair, just recently wrote in response to the news in a post for Medium and he reassured the public that the Ford team is dedicated to leading the self-driving revolution.

Ford has already tested Fusion Hybrid Autonomous Development Vehicles on tracks, as well as public roads for many years now. They still have a long way to go.

The cost of self-driving cars has really come down over the past few years thanks to the increase in competition. And now you can find a number of suitable self-driving car options on the market for around $20,000 or more.
