Brief synopsis and a hands-on of the OrCam MyEye: A reader for the sight-impaired

This device is an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) wearable device which takes the picture of text and converts it into sound. It also recognizes faces and products and retails (as of writing) for 3500 dollars in America and Canada, and 2200 pounds in the UK.

It has two main parts: the combined camera-speaker unit and the computer unit which contains a rechargeable battery. In this video, the awesome Tony explains the advantages that he has already experienced. He is my patients and loves this device. He also volunteers for guide dogs for the blind.

This kind of device can have a massive impact on the life of the around 300 million people in the world who are vision impaired. I hope it becomes more mainstream and affordable.

I hope we'll get more devices like this, at a lower price point, to help both sight-impaired and blind people.
