Strange Guns: FN Baby Browning
The FN Baby Browning was the first widely used and successfully sold pocket pistol sold in blowback design.
In 1905, gun designer John Browning designed the 1905 vest pocket pistol for Fabrique Nationale of France. In 1927, FN again asked Browning to redesign the pistol after a few modifications and problems the years before showed up. A year later, Browning delivered the Baby Browning .25 ACP semi-automatic pistol, which was an improvement of the original 1905 vest pocket pistol.
The new weapon was also a very small pistol at 4 by 2 and 3/4 inches in length and weighing 9.7 ounces empty. It had a six-round magazine, and the slide did not lock back after the last shot was fired. The action was a blowback, semi-automatic operation that Browning was known for. The sights was made of a fixed iron notch and a small front blade.
The .25 ACP cartridge had a velocity of 750 to 1100 feet per second. For comparison, it is similar to the energy of a .22 long rifle rimfire cartridge when fired from a pistol with a 4-inch barrel.
The .25 ACP is a little larger in diameter than the .22, so penetration may or may not be as good, depending on the distance to the target. With it's .25 ACP cartridge, the Baby Browning has good accuracy at 25 yards. But beyond that range it is laughable. This weapon is a pretty simple pistol.
The Baby Browning was manufactured from 1931 to 1975, but it wasn't exported to the U.S. until 1954. It was discontinued in 1969. It was used by the French Resistance during World War II and later by the U.S. Air Force, possibly as part of the pilot survival kit if the airplane went down.
The gun is still valued as a gun collector's item today.

Quite a dangerous and effective handgun too as it is equivalent from a .22 longrifle cartridge rimfire. I would like to own one too.
