Eyes-on: Lenovo Z5 unveiled - The biggest letdown (and LIE) in the history of smartphone!

Hi fellow Steemians.

Do you remember Lenovo hyping up their upcoming smartphone, the Z5? It was supposed to have over 95% screen-to-body ratio, 45 days of standby time, 4TB of storage and more. Here's the initial teaser Lenovo released.

Well now here's the actual phone that has been released.

Disappointment would be an understatement. Still, let's take a look.

Specification

6.2-inch 1080p 19:9 ratio display (definitely not 95% screen-to-body ratio, or even 90% now claimed by Lenovo I recko)
Snapdragon 636 processor
6GB RAM
64 or 128 GB Storage
Dual 16MP rear cameras
8MP front camera

Oh that 4TB of storage? Lenovo was just announcing a 4TB of regular desktop hard disk along with this phone. Probably something got lost in translation or Lenovo's trolling the tech community real hard.

My thoughts.

What can I say. Just take a look at the image below.

Left side is what was teased. Right side is the actual phone. that's a huge difference.

In terms of specs, I'm not too mad. Snapdragon 636 is a very capable processor and 6GB of RAM is plenty. It's just the design I have problems with. It's a ripoff of iPhone X and they didn't even do a good job of it.

So how much for all of this? It goes on sale in China on June 12, starting at $200 for the 64GB version and $280 for the 128GB. At least it's not an expensive phone.

But look. Lenovo's not a small company. It owns Motorola and has one of, if not the largest laptop business in the world (albeit they bought it from IBM). My Lenovo laptop's actually really good. Everyone talks about how Chinese phones are just ripoffs of Apple and Samsung and while I'm not Chinese, I usually say "hey, there are still a few respectable phones nowadays, like OnePlus and Huawei. Even Xiaomi's getting pretty good now." But Lenovo just lost my (and probably everyone's) respect for the company. The front is copied from iPhone X (it even has a chin!!!), the rear camera placement is copied from iPhone X and the colour is copied from Huawei P20 series. It's a copycat phone full of disappointment.

So long, Lenovo's mobile division. I hope to never see you again.
