Introduction to refrigeration

in #technology7 years ago

Next in the present post I will be defining basic terms frequently used in the topic of refrigeration to facilitate the understanding of the subject. In publications subsequent to this, I will go into more detail regarding this issue in issues of fault detection, corrections, good practices and solutions.

To begin with this introduction we will give you go to the definition of some terms frequently used in refrigeration theme.

  • Cold:
  • A definition as such does not exist, that is; The cold pair definition does not exist and is known as simply a feeling of lack of heat; cold is the term used to describe the temperature of a specific object or area.

  • BTU:
  • British thermal unit, and is the amount of heat that needs to be extracted from one pound of water (453.592 gr) to lower the temperature 1 ° F (-17.22 ° C).

  • Temperature:
  • refers to a magnitude of heat that is measured with thermometers.

  • Thermal jump:
  • refers to the difference in air temperature of one space with respect to another, is used to measure the difference in air temperature between the entrance and exit of a conditioner or between the interior and exterior of a refrigerated space.

  • Humidity:
  • It refers to the condition of air with respect to the amount of water vapor it contains.

  • Ton of refrigeration (ton):
  • It is the equivalent of 12000 BTU / h and in turn to 3000 frigories / h.

  • Refrigerant gas:
  • It is a chemical used as an agent to exchange heat in different segments in a refrigeration system and there are several types.

  • Condensation:
  • It is the process of transformation of a fluid from gaseous state to liquid state.

  • Evaporation:
  • It is the process of transforming a fluid from liquid to gaseous state. I hope this information has been useful, in the next article I will be defining the main components in the mechanical system of a refrigeration equipment.

I am a Y2 refrigeration mechanic, I like this post it gets some basics down quick. I feel however to really get the point across about cold. I feel its good to mention how "cold" is relative to the test item. I like to use a spoon in the fridge and some salted ice water in the freezer. I get somebody to touch the spoon, it feels cold to them then I get them to swirl their finger in the saline water for a couple seconds then touch the spoon again, in most cases the cold fridge spool feels warm to that finger showing that the cold spoon is warm relative to the colder ice water.
