Faster rendering of fractal flames using GPU

After struggling with long render times in both Apophysis and JWildfire, I've been looking for a GPU rendering option in the hopes of speeding things up a bit.

JWildfire has an internal text file about the GPU rendering option available. Unfortunately it's not compatible with Linux systems, so I had to scrap that idea for now.

Fractorium seems to be the only Linux compatible fractal flame rendering engine out there at the moment. It definitely has potential, the GPU rendering worked without any hassles at all. The user interface isn't very intuitive but the renders seem to be marginally faster than the CPU rendering in JWildfire.

The images come out slightly differently too...

This is from JWildfire.

This is the same flame file rendered from fractorium.

I'm not sure if this is a fractorium issue or just a general incompatibility between the different fractal flame softwares. Or possibly just some settings in fractorium? The camera settings definitely seem different.

The GPU rendering in fractorium is substantially faster than the CPU rendering, so a bit more exploration is definitely in order.

Great work keep it up If you have an iphone or ipad look into frax its a neat little fractal maker

Thank you! I'm not generally an apple user but I'll make a plan to check it out.

Here is one I made with the app IMG_2112.JPG

you got a new follower, looking forward to see more of your stuff

looks amazing
