Let’s embrace radical innovation

in #technology8 years ago (edited)

As I follow  the insane amount of information of the inevitable to come. The end of time as we know it. An ominous glance into the future, for the doomers and gloomers amongst us. The technology is going to dominate our world more and more, and that’s probably good too. Technology is going to challenge our way of life, the way we think and will influence us so much more than we realize. Technology shows us how limited we humans are ourselves, but how amazing we are in terms of building great tools. How we should grab innovation by the balls and run with it. Dare to fail, so we can ultimately succeed.

An abundance of technological development in transport, food, space, creation and production in space through 3D printing, biotech, healthcare without hospitals, driverless cars and so on and so on. It’s all coming.
We need to teach ourselves to change radically. Be it personally or be it as an organization. Learning ways to change faster and to get in gear of the speed of development. Only then you’ll start to see some results that will last and outgrow any type of competitor.

Exponential growth

That’s not something we should talk about anymore. Things like linear growth or exponential growth is a thing of the past. Companies of today like Uber, Airbnb, Oculus Rift and many others are going through something we call Hyper Exponential Growth. They’re raking in a valuation of a billion or more within 9 months by playing into the constantly changing society and throw everything we thought we knew out of the window. Almost everything we hear over the news, it’s old news. Startups are working on production in space and it’s only years before we’ll work with nanotech on a personal level to improve healthcare. It’s possible now to use nano drones with a high resolution to get a pixel perfect picture of your neighbourhood or surroundings. Calculate how your competition is doing or just have a look at what your neighbours are up to. A huge privacy dilemma, right? But that’s something for another time.

And it’s not (all) happening in Silicon Valley either, but mostly in China. Shenzhen, Shanghai and of course the rest of huge China. If you thought that all they can do is copy others, then you’re wrong. It’s the country of Haier, the country of WeChat and it’s the country that is majorly ahead in terms of organisational innovations. Ways of working and thinking. It’s something we can all take notes from. To be able to realize a hyper exponential growth, we need to get rid of those specific frames we think and work in.

Change, change, change

Where we used to operate based on location, location, location as the most important aspect of being an entrepreneur, nowadays it’s all about change, change, change. Adapt or die. Survival isn’t dependent on hanging in there, hard work and making sure you stay ahead of your competitors by pricing lower or offering better personal service. We’re going further than that. We’re going towards complete neuromarketing, a strategy specifically targeted to each person, based on your reaction hearing or experiencing a certain innovation or product. Privacy? Yup, again, kind of a big deal.

We’re seeing tremendous changes in computing power and intuitive abilities of computers thanks to AI. With all these types of technologies, like solar panels, biotech and drones, the costs drop exponentially, the possibilities are endless and development is going faster than ever. Take the capacity of the newest quantum computer that will be presented soon for example, which has the combined computing power of all of the computers in the world. Watch out blockchain.

How technology can be used both for you and against you. How changes and progression in technology cause change for people’s jobs, our society, raise ethical questions, but mostly change the way we think. Us people haven’t changed much in the past 50.000 years, in terms of brain capacity, patterns and wiring. That doesn’t mean we can’t force our own evolution, because we are inventors and tool builders after all. We’ll find a way to the ultimate change of human existence.

Thank you, most likely more to write about every week :)

Hi! This post has a Flesch-Kincaid grade level of 7.4 and reading ease of 69%. This puts the writing level on par with Tom Clancy and F. Scott Fitzgerald.
