Samsung Electronics is reaching out to the coin mining industry. Samsung Electronics has concluded a foundry contract with Chinese currency mining hardware maker and is confirmed to have started mass production starting in January.

According to Samsung Electronics and related industries on the 29th, Samsung Electronics completed the ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) semiconductor development process for the extraction of bit currencies last year and started mass production from January .

Samsung Electronics said: "We are in the middle of a foundry business being provided to a virtual money mining company in China," he said.

ASIC, which Samsung Electronics began mass-producing, is an on-demand semiconductor designed optimally for the extraction of bit coins. Extraction of bit currencies requires high speed hardware and energy efficiency. As a result, companies that extracted bit coins in large quantities commissioned dedicated ASIC chips tailored to their respective mining operations and installed them in mining equipment.

Virtual currency mining means additional issue of currencies. When a computer decrypts a password made up of complex algorithms, a certain amount of bit currencies are generated. The Bit Currency Mining method is classified as a GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) method and an ASIC method.

Graphics cards made up of GPU chipsets were primarily used as an initial mining method. It is a way to increase the speed of hardware mining by inserting about 10 graphics cards into a mining hardware. Since 2013, the mining industry has changed largely to the use of ASIC mining-specific excavators. GPU-based graphics cards are not specialized in virtual currency mining itself, which is a disadvantage in terms of efficiency.

Bitcoin mining requires a tremendous amount of energy. Major mining companies have operated in China, where relatively cheap electricity is available. Chinese mining company BitMain is one of the largest mining companies in the world. BitMain is designing the dedicated dedicated chip 'Ent Minor 9'. In addition, Bitterar and Jiannan Winds are also known as representative Chinese mining companies.

Samsung Electronics has attracted attention not only for its foundry business but also for the mass production of DRAM for graphics card which is suitable for virtual money mining. The GDDR6 DRAM of 16 Gb of 10 nanometers, that has just begun mass production, is the model. GDDR6 DRAM is twice as fast as conventional DRD GDDR5 and low power design, which improves energy efficiency by more than 35% and can improve GPU performance for virtual money mining.

TSMC, Taiwan, is the foundation manufacturer that benefits from bitcoin mining related to Samsung Electronics. Taiwan TSMC is providing the ASIC semiconductor for mining to the main mining company Bitmain. In the smelter market, Samsung Electronics is due to discuss the effects of increased revenue due to increased demand related to bit-currency sales.

Analysts at Samsung Securities commented, "While Samsung Electronics may seek to increase profits by supplying some ASIC, the share of foundries throughout the semiconductor industry is not large. So we anticipate that the semiconductor co- he said.
