SmartHome: Do you have Z-Wave technology?

in #technology6 years ago

One of the things that is starting to get more and more attention is the future smarthome, I have taken a look at the market and even tho I do have some stuff myself, I dont nearly have enough!

This is not an area I usually write about, but I find it very interesting and I keep looking at it constantly for finding the right sollution for my own house, and I stumbled upon Z-Wave.

The wireless Z-wave standard is one of the technology on the market today for smarthouses and there are some relatively cheap products based on this standard.

Z-Wave controls can control power supply and light all the way down to individual contact levels and therefore can easily cut virtually all standby consumption to a minimum. Similarly, the technology can be used to control everything from window shutdown and thermostats to room monitoring with sensors, cameras, etc. The technology works by connecting a central gateway to the Internet.

It can communicate wirelessly with all the Z-Wave modules and sensors of the house, so you can automate your home without pulling cables. The network keeps an eye on all the active power outlets, so you can set it to automatically turn off or mute the light, tell if your coffee maker is switched on or you have forgotten to close a window.

When you're not home, you can control the devices from a PC or via your mobile phone. You can purchase new products that can work with the control systems and products you have already invested in.

If a product is labeled with the Z-Wave logo, the company behind (Zensys) and the Z-Wave Alliance (a group of companies using Z-Wave technology) guarantees that the product works seamlessly with other Z-Wave products. This also applies, even though the Z-Wave products are manufactured by different manufacturers.

It is possible to change existing power outlets and connectors with other built-in devices that can be controlled via the central control function in, for example, a Z-Wave based intelligent home. You can also just buy a Z-Wave plug and put into your existing plug and make it smart (that is the easy way)

A large number of Z-wave devices are already available. You can get radiator thermostats, electrical outlets, cameras, alarms and more. In addition, there are several types of remote controls. With some of them you can, for example, dampen the light in the room and turn on the coffeemaker and the tv.

Other Z-Wave remotes can significantly more than that. Electronic Housekeeper is, for example, an entire computer with touchscreen display, in addition to controlling connectors and power outlets, you can also read news, watch internet TV and listen to music.

What are your thoughts regarding future smarthomes? do you already have a smarthome or dont you see the point in it?

Please leave your thoughts and comments, and thank you for reading.

I sounds cool but I don't want my wife yet another excuse to look at her phone. It does sound like this could potentially help shave a little off the electric bill though.

Haha yes the wives...

IOT and smarthomes have the potential to become huge as more and more adopts the technology. Lets just hope the adoption rate is high and cost of entry low... unlike VR.
Haven't bought any of that myself yet but will be keeping a close eye on the trends.

Some of this stuff is actually affordable, but to be fully connected is a whole other thing
