Intel kills WiGig products to focus underlying tech on wireless VR

in #technology7 years ago (edited)

Intel has officially killed its WiGig line of products in favor of dedicating the wireless connectivity technology to virtual reality (VR) headsets, Anandtech reports.

his implies that Intel will soon never again offer 802.11d radio cards, receiving wires and sinks, with End of Life (EOL) programs set up for each. Shipments of these parts will stop before the finish of 2017, December 29 to be correct.

Such a short EOL design demonstrates that the items weren't exceptionally well known in the first place. Notwithstanding, Intel means to help the WiGig items it has just transported for a long time to come.

For those unaware of present circumstances, Wigging is Intel's favor name for the short-go 802.11d availability standard, which works over the 60 GHz recurrence. The innovation takes into account remote docking and network of gadgets with speeds that approach that of USB 3.1 Type-C and Thunderbolt 3 hard line associations.

Be that as it may, being a short-run flag, Wigig requires associated gadgets to be dreadfully close and unobstructed by physical articles, similar to dividers or floors. When you can get speedier and more dependable network from a hard-line Thunderbolt 3 association, the point turns out to be fairly debatable.
