Qualcomm Finally Surrender After Fighting with Apple

Qualcomm CEOs recently expressed hope that a legal battle between them and Apple could be settled out of court. Although that has not happened yet, it seems the company wasted no time to put pressure on Apple to potentially come to a settlement, especially as they have just done legal battles in Germany.

According to a report from DPA quoted from Ubergizmo, Thursday (20/07/2017), now Qualcomm sued Apple in Germany for two patents that they allege that Apple has violated the deal. The patent in question includes battery efficiency technology, with Qualcomm trying to end all iPhone imports into the region.

The case is exactly the request of Qualcomm submitted by the ITC, where they hope to ban iPhone imports into the US. The lawsuits between the two companies have been going on for a while and seem to have just been heating up. However, Apple is not alone in this, because other people are also filing lawsuits against Qualcomm, like the FTC.

Previously known, Qualcomm also troubled the problem with the European Commission (EC). The chipmakers were accused of using anti-competitive methods and required paying fines.

Qualcomm was forced to pay 515,000 pounds per day. The anti-competitive charge was aimed at forcing the British software maker Icera, out of the market in a case that has lasted for more than seven years.

Not to be outdone, the chipmaker has appealed against a £ 515.00 fine per day, arguing that the EC request to submit more information related to the case would involve the number of extension jobs and would cost USD3.45 million.

President of the Court Marc Jaeger rejected the appeal last week, which ruled, "The petition does not claim that its financial feasibility is at risk or its market share can be substantially affected."

"In addition, it does not provide an explanation as to why it is impossible to seek compensation for the financial costs charged so that it will suffer by answering those questions," Jaeger said.

According to a Fortune report, Mollenkopf, speaking at a conference this week said that "These things tend to be settled out of court and there is no reason why I should not expect it to happen here.
