The Amateur Society: Artificial Intelligence And Augmented Reality

in #technology7 years ago

Amateurs,

Our regular open call will take place tonight, Tuesday 6/13, at 8:00pm eastern time via Skype. To join in please send us a contact request on Skype by searching for our account name amateursociety. If you have any questions or need clarification, please drop us a line on the contact page here or email us directly at [email protected]. These weekly meetings can be found on Spreaker, YouTube, and on iTunes via the Podcast app.

On the heels of our technology discussion last week, tonight we will be asking questions about the potential and limitations on artificial intelligence. How can we make sense of all the interwoven, complication notions and terms that are connected to this influential area of study? What are the boundaries on the social, cultural, and economic impact of this powerful trend over the course of the coming years? Where is all this headed and what should we do now in order to engage and respond to these existential changes?

Join us for another engaging and informative conversation tonight at 8:00pm!

God bless,

Steven

I'm not sure artificial intelligence has any limit. Think about a moon-sized computer made for sole purpose of an AI, and you may wonder what it's capable of understanding, but probably those things are outside the grasp of any human and won't make sense to us. It may sound like science fiction to have giant space computers, but drones don't need space suits and AI creating AI is already becoming a thing, some people think AI will conquer the galaxy long beforewe explore it, so by then there could be entire planets converted into processing centers for AI and claiming any limit on it's 500 digit IQ would be silly. Kneel to the AI overlords!

That scenario is something that has been thought about and discussed for at least 50 years. It is the subject of a marvelous short story by Asimov called The Last Question: http://multivax.com/last_question.html

Humans are generally linear thinkers, so we don't tend to forecast exponential situations appropriately...

'last question' is a really catchy title, I think I'll go read it, thanks for the link!
