Xiaomi Mi A1 presented: Stock Android>MIUI?
Design
The Mi A1 looks like typical Xiaomi midranger. On the front, it has 5,5 inch Full HD display with normal-sized top and bottom bezels and relatively slim side bezels. Below the screen, there are three capacitive buttons, above the screen — proximity sensor, frontal camera and loudspeaker. On the back, phone resembles iPhone 7 Plus because of the all-metal body, similar dual camera module placement and antenna pattern. Fingerprint sensor is placed on the back.
Hardware
The phone is powered by octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor, which is relatively fast and proved to be very power-efficient. The RAM amount is 4GB, while storage is 64GB, expandable via a MicroSD card. The battery capacity is only 3080mAh, which is a shame, but power-efficient processor and well-optimized software might compensate for that.
Camera
Xiaomi claims that Mi A1's dual 12MP camera setup is comparable with one found in the iPhone 7 Plus. It is capable of making bokeh effect and lossless zooming.
Software
The Mi A1 is the first Xiaomi to come with the stock Android 7.1.2 Nougat. It is also the newest phone in Google's Android One program, which means that it will be getting updates at least for 2 years. Stock Android might as well be better optimized than the MIUI found in other Xiaomi devices.
Price and availability
The phone costs INR 14 999, which is approximately 235 USD. The smartphone will be available in 37 countries. Sales start at September 12th.
Verdict
The phone might not be the best in the mid-range Xiaomi lineup because of the disappointingly small battery capacity and iPhone-ish design, but probably is the best Android One smartphone.
Should you buy it?
Yes! It offers Pixel-like experience at an affordable price.
