iPhone X presented: An innovation or just a copycat?

in #technology7 years ago

Design
On the front, the phone has unique bezel-less 5,8-inch AMOLED display (first time on Apple phone!) with cutout for the camera and sensors in the middle top. The back is made from glass. The dual camera placement is now vertical instead of horizontal in iPhone 7 Plus.

Hardware
The phone comes with the new 6-core Apple A11 Bionic chipset, the most powerful at the market at the moment. The RAM amount is 3 GB, while internal storage options include 64 GB and 256 GB.

Camera
The main camera is an improved dual 12MP setup with larger pixels and brighter telephoto camera aperture than before. The most impressive part is that it is capable of recording 1080p@240fps and even 4K@60fps video! Image quality is yet to be seen, but official samples look promising. The frontal camera is a 7MP unit.

Software
The phone comes with iOS 11 modified to work well with the unusual screen: it has 19.5:9 aspect ratio and cutout for sensors in the middle top.

Cool features
The iPhone X has fast charging and wireless charging, as well as full-screen display. The new technology FaceID allows you to unlock the phone with your face.

Price and availability
The 64 GB model will cost 999 USD, whereas the 256 GB option will cost you 1149 USD. The phone will be available globally.

Verdict
The biggest leap forward in terms of design since the first iPhone was introduced. Some ideas, like face unlock or bezel-less screen are borrowed from other companies (Samsung, Sharp, Xiaomi etc.). There are also some downgrades compared to iPhone 7: for example, there is no fingerprint scanner and Face ID is not nearly as convenient (it even failed to work at the presentation!). Also, only time will tell, if the tall aspect ratio screen is actually useful or is just a gimmick.

Should you buy it?
If you are Apple-only user, yes. In any other case, you should look at the Samsung Galaxy S8 lineup or LG V30 or Essential Phone.

Sort:

According to my knowledge usually apple do not innovate something new,

They just make things better, at least most of the time.

Likewise in iphone X there is nothing new

Wireless charging is common on android

The edge to edge display is also seen in many the essential phone and the like

The Tango project by Google is example of AR.

I totally agree with you. I would as well add dual camera (first were LG G5 and Huawei P9, if I'm not wrong).
