Why you should free your Wi-Fi network after natural disasters (and how to do it)

in #technology7 years ago

In addition to following the specified security measures and ensuring that those around us are in good condition, there are small acts that one could rule out as being useless but which can have a significant impact on rescue efforts, to such an extent that can save lives.

When natural catastrophes occur, communications are the first thing that fails. That is why a simple gesture like opening your wifi network can make a significant difference in the rescue tasks. Thus, those who are in an emergency situation will be able to connect to communicate with relatives or rescue teams to be located more easily.

The important thing to keep in mind is that you should do this by sharing the internet from your home through a computer.

How do I free my Wi-Fi network?

Open the browser and insert this into the address bar: 192.168.1.1
The login page will prompt us for username and password. In these cases, it is usually a basic access key, so these are some options.
User and password: admin, 1234, 0000 or the brand of your modem (tplink, motorola, etc).
After access, a screen with a sidebar to the left will appear.
Here you must use your intuition, as depending on the modem varies the option to access the network settings.
Look for a tab that says some of these words: Wi-Fi, Wireless, SSID, Security or Network.
After clicking, the screen should select the box that says "security options" or "encryption method".
Select there "disable security options" or "open network", depending on the case.
Click save and exit.

With this, your network will be open and can be used by someone close to your reach. It costs nothing and can save lives. Learning how to do it now can be a good starting point to implement it quickly in a situation of this type. We tried?
