Although some find it concerning, fining out that we don't have "souls" in the traditional sense is comforting in a way as it gives us a better idea of what we are. It's easier to understand ourselves as being complex machines than magically gifted beings. I can make sense of a computer much better than I can make sense of a soul. This kind of meta thinking can give me a headache, although I read recently a new theory that everything is conscious to an extent which is becoming more and more academically accepted.
