Technology Disruption - Part 2: Deliveries
The other day, I needed to get a letter delivered…
(Yes, it needed to be a letter, not an email :P)
Its destination was in a city in Portugal that is about 200 km from my hometown, Porto. Prety easy, right?
Well, I went to the post office and asked for options… I became astonished with the answer…
6€ for the letter to be delivered in… Four days. This was said with a sense of “Oh, we deliver such a great service, don’t you think?”.
No, I don’t! How come?! There’s only a post office in Portugal, the rest is done by delivery companies and they say that it would take 6€ and four days?!
I immediately asked if the mail man was going to make the delivery on… Foot, for it would take him 50 hours according to Google Maps, and given that he would need to rest, it would be approximately equal to… Four days.
Post Offices, braces yourselves: you're being disrupted!
