It is easy to Hack who passes you on the street? It's very easy.

in #tech7 years ago

Nowadays even our coffee machines are connected to the Internet. Yes, it's true. IoT (Internet of Things) is the name given to these devices that are connected to the Internet without any supervision.

Coffee machines, smartphones, printers and other devices are vulnerable to hack. And this is what this security researcher decided to try to hack.

Jayson Street, a security researcher, decided to do what could be called a hack street. He picked up a device and stood in the street waiting for victims. Yes, it's that simple.

How did this happen?

Basically, the security researcher used what is called EvilAP (Evil Access Point), that is, imitated a wireless network and waited for the devices to connect to it. He created a wireless network, which is open, the devices start connecting automatically and... he get the traffic data that the devices send. Then analyze and collect passwords and other information.

How can I protect myself?

  • If you're not using Wifi, turn it off.

  • If you bought a printer, connect with a cable, it disables Wireless and other functions you do not use. The more connected to the Cloud to the more vulnerable it is.

  • Change the default passwords on your routers, printers, and other devices. This is the first thing that hackers will try: using the default passwords on the equipment.

  • Search on the internet. If you seek reviews on the internet and people complain about safety or other problems, don't buy, ask for clarification directly from the company.

If you have more suggestions how to protect and prevent hackers attacks, please leave a comment. Thank You!

In the "also my goldfish has an IPhone" era, in my opinion I think it is almost impossible to secure yourself temporarily to the fullest. I tell you why:
A hacker isn't just someone who tries to steal your password and that's it. A hacker wants a challenge, which he finds in every new-created security software/program for mobile devices or etc.
Somehow we have to stay also analog. Just look at the Swombies (Smartphone Zombies - yes, that is a word), who sit in the tram not looking at each other, ignoring themselves and laughing at some stupid clips or something. Wake up people, it's getting worse.
Great experiment, though !! Like this thought)) thank you!

Thank you for the comment :)

Great post!! I usually turn wifi of because it's useless outside my place and it keeps the battery long life;) Would like to know if we are secure using the mobile company net (ligar os dados no tlm. Ai este inglês :p )
