Wearable Technology

in #tech7 years ago

Wearable technology is technology that you can wear on a regular basis. It usually aims to help you with your everyday life. An early example of wearable technology is the hearing aid. In recent times, however, wearable technology has become much more advanced. Now, companies like Apple are producing Smart Watches that can do many of the same functions as your smartphone.

Wearable technology is important, because it is becoming more prominent. With devices such as the Apple Watch and smart glasses like Google Glass, technology is becoming more a part of our everyday life. It looks as if, in the future, people will always be connected to the internet by means of wearable technology. Amazon’s digital assistant called Alexa can now even be added to smart watches, aiming to make accessing information easier, regardless of where you are and what you are doing.

I think wearable technology will affect website design in that there is an inherently different way of consuming media on wearable technologies. The screens, I think, will be much smaller than even cell phones, so websites will have to be very responsive. Website developers may even have to make new versions of websites to accommodate these new devices. For example, smartwatches have much smaller screens that any other smart device.

I think wearable technology will affect the way humans interact on the internet in that much more information is going to be shared. With products like Google Glass, which are glasses with onboard cameras and computers, I think that people will be sharing much more of their lives on social media. Sharing a picture will be as easy as tapping a button on your glasses, or simply holding out your watch. Also, sometimes you forget your phone, but wearable technology like glasses and watches will always be on you, making it easy to answer phone calls and respond to messages.

So interesting--have you heard about another form of wearable technology, the optical character recognition system (ocr glasses) that serve as assistive technology for visually impaired and blind?
