My Mother's Adventures 1: From Poverty to Graduation
My mother, Josephine M. Piezas, was born on the 17th day of August 1959 in Lianga, Surgiao Del Sur. She was the first among the five offsprings. She spent her childhood life nearby the beach. Her father was a fisherman and her mother was a cloth maker. There were times that she ate rice topped of oil and salt. She went to the sea just to get calms to fill her empty stomach in every time her father did not have good catch of fishes.
She became achiever in her elementary and highschool days and won her very first beauty contest. The parents of her classmates trusted her so much due to her maturity. She told me that she was the most beautiful girl in their place during that time. There were guys who brought her horses, shampoos, and flowers just to court her but none of them become my mother's boyfriend. But my mother fell in love for a guy that was older than her, she knew that she was played emotionally so she broke up and continued to smile.
When my mother graduated highschool, she realized the state of her family. With full determination, she began searching for a college that she can enter. In her place, there was no schools for colleges so she rode a truck of vegetables that was destined to go into Davao City.
In Davao City, she worked in a bakery and her stipend there became her tuition fee that was only P70. My mother studied hard until she graduated in the course of Bachelor of Science in Business Commerce Major in Accounting. She became successful when she worked for a cosmetics agency. She managed a business and created more moneys. She bought two houses. She helped her family until an another chapter in her life opened.
