"When I Was Small"
"When I Was Small"
I no longer understand the world. Things that used to make sense when I was small.
Riding my bike until the street lights came on.
Kissing a boy and it's not being wrong.
The world back then was a simple place
Everyone played their part and we all had our place
Nobody protested about what was wrong,
As marriages worked for so very long.
We went to church regardless of our real faith.
But we joined with friends and celebrated our day.
Sunday was for formal, family and friends
Not a massive debate where no one wins in the end
Life was not perfect, what we had was for the now.
Things lasted longer not so instant like now.
We ate fish and chips from a newspaper spread
Nobody worried about smoking or dying from lead
Lifespans were similar but depression was rare
Because things weren't as complicated, life was just there
So when I can't sleep, from this worlds nasty tears.
I think of those times, when simplicity was here.
Not having debates on some "internet" age.
But having some fun, without fearing the rage.
Were we really worse off? Was the world then so bad?
Let me ask everyone, why are you now so sad?
Suicide is ripe, most people depressed.
We can't get ahead, despite trying out best.
Politics is corrupt, yet politically correct.
While we sit here and complain, about why we're the best.

Such a nice poem and all you have said were all true.... I wish I can go back to the simple life I had before when I was a child, even just for a day.
