Free Circumcision (libreng pagtutuli)
Circumcision or pagtutuli is an important to us, its our way to passed adolescent rite among boys in the Philippines. It is performed by the doctors associated with a nurse and military officers who is an expert in the procedure. Before we used to circumcision in an old way (pakang), the boys first bathe in a sea or river and chew on guava leaves before having their foreskins cut. The chewed guava leaves are then applied to the wound, and the boys are told to wear skirts for a few days and they don't want the girls saw it or don't let steep on chicken stool (dumi nang manok) because may swelling occurs, the penis is said to be boil or kinamatis (muhubag pareha ka pula sa kamatis)
In our town, our governments offer us a free circumcision every summer. They send us a professional doctors, nurses, and military officers to do the Operations.
All of my neighborhood and me together with my son Brielle come early to have a priority number first. And I thought that we are the early bird in the nest but I was wrong, we are almost at the last number. The government operating schedule was 8:00 am in the morning and we arrived at 6:15 am and God its almost in the last spot, we're in number 66.
Many of my neighborhood grab this once in a year opportunities , free circumcision. It helps us a lot in terms of financial aspects due to expensive hospitalizations. In hospital we spend for almost $50 to $100 with complete medicines. While in free circumcision by our government we have nothing to pay, all expenses are free including the medicines. All we have is to come up early in the meeting place to have a priority number and it's done. Its a big THANK for our government who are given us a free circumcision. May the good deeds never stop.

In our place, traditional Circumcision still exists. Where the one who conducts the procedure just use an old-school Filipino knife(Itak or dipang) and a wooden stick, after cutting the foreskin the manunuli he just chew some leaves and apply it directly to the wound, and wrap it with a piece of cloth teared-out from his t-shirt. LOL . It is still however guaranteed safe to undergo this procedure with medical professionals.
