LITTLE BIG MAMA'S BOY!

The most sentimental individuals on the planet are the jocular ones. I would say.

The rain poured slowly in the cold dark morning. It was a lonely Saturday. My mother should be coming. I missed her so much. Tears unintentionally started flowing and running through my cheeks. I wept deeply and shouted silently inside. My little sisters tapped my back and my shoulder telling, "Mama will be here soon. Everything's gonna be alright".

Due to poverty, my parents had to leave and searched for a luck in another island. I was ten year old back then. My little sisters with me were aged eight and six. My parents and my older brother went to an island called Hilotongan for a better living. The island is just a community of one barangay, which name is Hilotongan itself.

My younger sisters and I were still grade schooler and we didn't want to miss our education. We were left at home, with the relatives of course watching over us. We would sleep at night to our grandma's house which was just a walking distance from ours. Every morning at dawn, we woke up and would go home. I was the one taking good care of my younger sisters. Financial provisions, however, were from our parents of course. I was my sisters' cook, mother, father, brother and anyone that could they depend on for their security and safety.

Funny it was. I did remember I was making for our breakfast. I forgot to add water on the heated rice. Late that I noticed, the rice smelled burnt. I just then added a cup of water and the result was like a darkish brown rice with a little bitter taste. As a parentlike, I advised them to eat to have something in their stomach. Additionally, it looked like a delicious menu.

One morning, we're ready for school. My sisters broke a cup and had her finger wounded. I saw the blood. I saw the pain. I saw the agony. I saw the hurt. But these were not shown on my sister's face. It was inside of me. What if my sister would not able to write at school. What if she'd get bullied because of it. What ifs... Those were just kiddy frights, I think, because everything went well. It's difficult to be me.

Another day, we usually woke up at 4:00 AM and walked home. The surroundings were dark yet. I was holding a flashlight and leading the way. We met a black colored animal. The eyes were fiercely staring at us. It ran coming to our way. We were afraid but never did I show. I was my sisters defender. They came closer to me holding my hand. "I have to be a saving fighter", I said to myself. Was it a lion? A tiger? Or a witch? No! That was a cutie little cat chasing a mouse. What? We're all friends then. Hayyy! A relief!

The day came. Missing my mother was all I ever knew. Every weekend, she would visit us and arrived early morning. But Mama wasn't there yet in that morning. Lunch time, Mama wasn't still there. I had to let my sisters take their meal. When we started eating, the rains started flowing as well. Thunder showed its rudeness. That was my hatest time of the day. My heart just suddenly burst out and made a sound of my deepest cry. I control my emotions. Tears were too heavy to hold. I was crying but not my little sisters. They let me calm instead and convinced me that Mama was coming.

Mama loved, loves, and will always love us. I certainly know that. Those were may be difficult situations we faced but my Mama never failed to mold me as a human and she never failed to show her love for us. I love my Mama!
