STEEMIT: For the money or passion?
Over the past few days I have noticed a great decline of activities on the steemit platform and know you might want to ask me how? Well I get most of my notifications from Ginabot, of new posts from people I desire to read their posts daily and also when some words/phrases are mentioned I get notified of it. But I discovered that the notification I get has greatly decreased even with the inclusion of more people in my ginabot setting that i want to get notified when they post. I wondered why and my mind directed me to the current price of steem/steem dollars as compared to the over $4 of three weeks ago and I concluded that many are on the platform for the money and not really because of passion.
I don’t in away blame those that came for the money because it was my search for money that brought me to steemit after trying my hands on many online deals and some scams that flooded Nigeria last year in the likes (MMM, TWINKAS , MMM UNITED etc). I lost some cash to them because I never knew how they truly operated until some of my money was gone with them early January 2017 but thank God I found steemit this year.
Although I came for the money but as time went on, I discovered that I actually came to steemit, not for the money alone but for the passion as a writer.

I once operated a blog last year (https://gcnstories.blogspot.com), where I posted inspirational write ups, stories and general write ups but abandoned it because God Adsense rejected my application to earn from my blog. I have been enjoying steemit because it has being helping my writing ability and putting my head to think and come out with something new especially when I join contests.
Steemit has greatly increased my passion for writing despite the decline in the price. Some of my posts were reading $4 upvote last week but most of my payout this week were below $3 and some even dropped below $2, yet I am still on the platform posting daily because of the passion I have as a writer although a final student of Statistics in the university.

Few weeks ago, steemit was ranking among the top 1000 most visited site in the world by Alexa ranking but today it has move away to be among top 2000 which shows that most steemians came for the money and not passion and is having a negative impact on the platform aside the coin market capitalization effect.
I might be making noise to you but if there is no passion, steemit may not go far.
Lets join hands and make steem great again. Lets go for the passion and the money will follow!

I am here for money and to develop my writings. 😀 As of now, I can't post daily because of very slow internet connection at home. Once I get back to my workplace, I will post daily just like before. 😀 Right now, I will enjoy my vacation. 😀
Enjoy your vacation ma and remain cute 👍
As probably anyone here on SteemIt I was mislead by the ads that promised me that I could earn money here. I consider myself to be one of the fortunate ones because it didn’t take me long to realize the community was far more important than the money could ever be.
Of course I like to earn a couple of bucks on my posts - who doesn’t? - but it hasn’t been my main goal here for a long time. If it were, I would have left a long time ago.
I’ve never been a very community-minded person, and if you would have told me a year ago that I would feel a great commitment to an online community, and that I would consider people I never met to be my friends, my tribe, I would have told you you were out of your mind.
But here I am, not so much caring about he financial rewards, but unbelievably thankful for all the incredible people I met - and am still meeting every day. People who are ‘real’, although they live on the other side of the world. People who are there to support me, make my smile when I need it, and help me to learn new stuff about myself every day again.
I’ve always been kind of a loner in my online life, and every day again I am surprised about how committed I feel to this SteemIt community.
My SteemIt experience stopped being about the money a long time ago.
I truly believe I’m a part of a whole new generation of Steemians who have the right mindset to make this platform what it should be. Hopefully, SteemIt will survive long enough to allow this new generation to grow their accounts bigger and eventually have some influence on how things are going now.
My SteemIt journey has not only helped me to rediscover my love for writing again (after writing the same fake sales pitches for more than 15 years, I actually forgot what it was to enjoy writing), but it has had a tremendous impact on my social interaction abilities, and I can feel that reflect in my life offline.
You can say I fell in love with the community. Maybe I was just lucky to be picked up by @davemccoy and his @newbiresteemday initiative. If it weren’t for them, I’d probably still be sailing this big Steemit ocean by myself. But thanks to these guys, I found my purpose: helping others to succeed is the best feeling in the world.
If I see how actions that I consider very small, like giving someone a warm welcome, have such a big impact on others, ... I consider this to be the best reward I can get. It is of much more value than Money could ever be.
A little over a week ago, I hosted an appreciation contest, in which I asked people to write a short comment letting two people know how important they had been to them, it was a big success. Seeing all that appreciation going back and forth... that’s why I do it. That’s why I’m still here.
And I truly believe that the people who stay, even when the rewards are this low, will at one point make SteemIt the platform it is supposed to be!
Wow I love this response. If people are given the proper knowledge then steemit platform will grow at a steady rate. Thanks for coming around.
I feel loved. Thanks.
You are! :0)
I like people caring for eachother... good for you both...
Great question..=), made me think ...
So which one are you here for?
hi @inspiredideon1. For the weeks ive stayed with here, I think I am here for both. Being on steemit makes me happy as I am slowly learning to share all that I feel and experience through writing . It has allowed me to freely express ME. Plus, I get to know people who are appreciative and supportive of my work . I gain friends and interacting with them through steemit is something I really look forward to on a daily basis. The money part, there is no way that I can deny that its part of the reason i joined but I realized it shouldn't be all about the money.Because if we just make it about it then newcomers like me would just end up leaving after a week. You are right about your previous post, everybody should enjoy the process, the people and everything else follows. =)
That's nice. Keep learning and earning
the fact we are still making some money makes a difference but there are more benefits that that! its good to stay in because you will be ahead when SBD comes bouncing back, we are at the end of a tax year and entering a new one, this time of yr is low for finance stuff. I also lost money in some scams but there isnt a get rich quick solution, keep working, stay on it. best platform for supportive communities and world wide authentic connection. peace
Thanks friend. Just doing my best here but it has not being easy.

thank you for open yourself to the community, what I appriciate is your honesty, yet I am for both like you... Being from Venezuela few cents make a huge difference in my country but it helps me to brush up my English and to share insights that I had every now and then... It is well... this should be our attitud.
Wow. That's a nice one.
