The sad end of a movie, a breakup, a julienned onion, a blow or concussion or a laughing fit are some of the things that can trigger our tears, an element that has a variety of functions.
The glands that produce them do so continuously, and can generate between 55 and more than 110 litres of tears a year, which contribute daily to maintaining eye health, as well as communicating emotions.
