LIVING WITHIN YOUR MEANS!

Have you ever seen someone who is always in debt or are you one?

Do you find yourself not being able to take care of yourself and attend to other needs because of having people always on your neck to pay them up? .

Then you haven't been living within your means!

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO LIVE WITHIN YOUR MEANS!

For you to say that you are living within your means, the total money you spend each month should be lesser or equal with your total income for the month.

You may ask whether is attainable, the answer is yes but then it must be through a deliberate act of sticking to your budget for the month.

Most of us spend frivolously, wanting to finish every little money that gets into our hands without even saving or thinking about the future which is very wrong as emergencies are bound to occur at any point in time.

Sometimes you may end up making expenditures you never planned for, that is why you need not to consume all that you lay your hands on.

I once heard of a family man who was earning one hundred thousand naira monthly and living in a rented apartment of 350k per annum and after two years he couldn't cope and had to rent one bedroom flat.

This is someone who was living in 3 bedroom flat.

There is nothing wrong living in a house of 350k but wisdom demands that you go for things that your total income can comfortably foot the bills.

You need to know the average of what you get monthly and plan with it so that you wouldn't overshoot your budget.

There may be time your income for the month will not be able to take care of your expenses for the month, the best thing for you to do in this situation is to choose your most pressing needs and leave the ones that you can do without till the next month.

You may be lucky not to have much expenses the next month, then you can add up the budget from the last month.

One of the habits some people have is buying what they don't need, they end up wasting their money as they would never use it for even a day.

Before you buy something ask yourself whether you need it or you just feel like spending.

Some of us can't even distinguish our needs from wants.

Some persons buy things that are not necessary simply because they want to meet up with their peers and just show off.

Life is in different stages, let's learn to enjoy all the phases, you may not be where you are today but give it time you would surely get there.

I remember when my mother told me that she used to wear her school uniform to church, then there was no money but now she has clothes that can stay in her box for a whole year without being worn.

I love testimonies like when someone would say i used to use one thousand naira and feed in one day but now three thousand naira can't even be enough for a meal.

Our problem is show-off and competition, why don't you leave within your means and save yourself the stress of having to be in debt for years and the shame of running to hide whenever the person you are owing is approaching.

You can also save some money by doing your laundry yourself and making your meals rather than hiring people to do them when you know you can't sustain that for long.

Wait till you salary increases or when you have other sources of income.

I see some ladies who are not earning making hairs of 50k and above, going to bouquets buying very costly dresses.

If you don't have much you can also spend little on your wears, keep them neat and ironed, you would still look smart.

There is a way you carry yourself with all confidence and when people see you they begin to think that your wears worth a lot.

It's in the way you package yourself!

Make your budget and stick to it deliberately, i have a rule that am working it and it's "Never borrow when you cannot save" because you would struggle to pay it back.

Another useful point is to avoid impulse buying as this method consumes your income without your knowledge of how much you have exhausted.

Finally even in living within your means take good care of yourself and eat healthy, take advantage of foods in season as tend they to be cheaper, remember the saying "Health is Wealth".

We should always take care of our need more than our want.

Some times ... discipline is all it takes. .

But laziness, laziness weakens discipline. 😥😥😥

Super great advice! Debt is a type of bondage.
Great piece! Thanks!
