[Foodilicious] Sticky Rice Delicacies I grew up with
Sticky rice (kankanen in Ilocano) delicacies are part of my childhood years. Back then, I only get a taste of these during special occasions- birthdays, anniversaries, christmas and new year celebrations.
Kankanen Names:
From Topmostleft: Inkiwar
Below: Dudumen
Middle:Binanglay
Rightmost: Suman Latik
Old folks including my apong (Ilocano word for grandparent) would come together to prepare and cook kankanen. It was a fun sight to see them get busy while talk about events that happen around the community. As a young girl then, what I was most excited about was when cooking was done and it was time to eat!☺
I grew up in this small and friendly community in western Pangasinan where most of the early settlers have migrated from Ilocos. My great great grandparents were few of those who brought their skills, traditions and culture here.
Food is definitely something that they have carried with them. The recipes have been passed down from generation to generation.
Today, it is like a walk from the past.
I have varieties of kankanen from the market.
I am snacking on Suman Latik and Binanglay right now
