My Top 5 Food (Kopi Tiam) MUST EAT in Kota Kinabalu :)

Being in the Tourism Industry, every now and then guest and client would always ask where and what to eat in KK, Sabah.

So,below are my Top 5 choice representing Sabah Food. I know there are other etnic food and other type of dishes out there in Sabah, but these are my top 5 preferences in non particular order.

1.Sabah Ngiu Chap (Beef Noodle Soup)

This dish is everything about BEEF. You can have either Soup base or Dry . The dish variety of inner parts of Cow such as The Spleen, The Tongue, Beef Tendon, Beef Tripe is something Daring (FEAR Factor) to try. Other than the conventional Beef Meat Slice, Beef Meat Balls.

The famous Sabah Beef Noodle would be the "Kah Hiong Ngiu Chap" which runs in the family business . They also have a branch in Kuala Lumpur.

Another shop that is also Famous for this Dish is "Yii Hsiang Hainan Ngiu Chap", they not only serve the traditional beef soup based , they also served the Laksa Beef Noodle Soup (Which i can say its a Perfect Match)

2.Tuaran Mee

This dish is all about the Noodle, it's Fragrant smell combinations with a fried egg, the Wok fire . Its is hand's down one of my best fry noodle type in Sabah. This Shop is Located Inanam Bus Terminal and literally the name of the Shop is "Tuaran Mee". A Bonus if can order Local Rice Wine Tuaran Mee ... I am Speechless when i eat this.

3.Sabah Pork Noodle Soup

This Dish is everybody favorite, even kids loves them. from soft tender slice pork , to it's inner intestines , and the heart and soft pork tendon. It is by far the most delicious meal , either for Dinner or Lunch.

You can have it in Dry or Soup base. In Lintas area the King and Queen of Sabah Pork Noodle Soup or in Hakka people always say Sang Nyuk Mien.

4.Bah Kut Teh’

For me Bah Kut Teh' in Sabah has a disticnt taste compare to our West Msia counterpart. (Mostly Chinese Tourist will love this and will have it for Breakfast. YES for Breakfast. Most Bah Kut Teh' shop dont open in the morning unless Special Order by Travel Agent . However , this is mainly for Chinese Tourist.

For all locals alike , we have our Own preferences in taste bud. For me the New Lion (Klang) in Beverly Hills and next to it . This pic was taken by my hp , from my last visit .

5.Sabah Pan Mien

This dish remind me of my childhood, i was grown up to eat this dish. Now, we have a number of Shop selling this Dish where most of them have master it from passing down recipe . There are few place to have this Dish, Lido Pan Mien, Towering "Tasty" , Penampang Donggongon to name a few. Pan Mien is literally direct translation of Flat Noodle. All the noodles are freshly made on the spot to enhance the flavour of the dish.

So , above are my Top 5 Food (Kopi Tiam) must eat in Kota Kinabalu, i do have to say there are many other dish , such the Local Tuhau, Hinava, Pinasakan, these are all Traditional which i believe will soon become a norm dishes, TQ to a Shop called "The Place" they have promoted Traditional Food to the next Level.

Other Dish such as Tom Yam, Laksa, Sarawak Noodle, Chay Kue Tiaw, Claypot Rice and others also nice , however there mostly can be around any chinese kopi tiam in West Malaysia.
