Should DotA 2 be known as A method to improve people's English?

Based on a good classmate's post at Here. I have decided to write about my opinion on it ^^

As I've explained before in my previous post, I am not a native English speaker and I find that through video games that we can actually improve on our English. This is because we can interact with people from all over the world with multiple backgrounds and that is a valuable experience that we can use to improve our English language. Everyone has their own mother language and for those who don't speak English, they usually end up trying to communicate with people with other languages in English because it is a universal language.

That being said, hands down I completely agree with my friend's statement saying that " I do not agree with the idea of using DoTA 2 in classroom learning.". As much as I approve of it, it's just not a very effective was to do for a class activity. It is more suitable for like a spare time activity to do while the students do not have any work to do. While being entertained with the game, they are also able to practice their English skills. This activity is more of an additional method students can apply in their lives. The main way to learn is without a doubt through proper education where the teachers/lecturers will teach them the proper way to learn English.

Other than that, it is true that the game further develops a person's skills in English which are writing, speaking, listening and reading. Things, like listening to the dialogs in the game, reading the instructions in the game and texting in the text, are all being improved as they continue to do it subconsciously. Not to mention people who prefer to speak verbally instead of texting, this action will help them to practice speaking in English.

As for students, they can see this as a way to kill two birds with one stone as they say. Instead of just spending free time playing games, why not do that while also taking the opportunity to practice their English language. It might be difficult for starters but it will get easy eventually, the more they do it the more they will get used to it.

That is all from me, it was nice having to give my opinion on this topic.
Till next time, Sayonara! ヾ(•ω•)oヾ(•ω•)o
