My other hobby - Video Games

in #teammalaysia7 years ago (edited)

Most knows that photography is my hobby. I can say it is my serious hobby. Other than photography, I have an alternative hobby, which is playing video games.

Just like any other serious hobbier, sometimes we will get the feeling that our usual hobby is not exciting anymore. I would left my camera inside the camera bag for weeks. Once, I got bored for the whole year. So I started to seek for new hobby. Not to replace my main hobby. Only to fill the void. Until I fall back to the one that I loved.

I used to play video games during my childhood. It was in 1994, when I got my first gaming console, and it was NES (Nintendo Entertainment System). I still remember the price for one cartridge was around RM70 - RM100 per game. Back then, RM70 was considered expensive. Damn expensive. RM100 can feed a household for whole month, kind of expensive.

Since buying multiple game cartridge is not an ideal option, what I and my friends does is, we exchange game cartridge with each others. That way, we can play lots of games without spending to much money to purchase the cartridges.

My all time favorite would be; Contra. Man, I really love that game. Ask anyone in their mid 30's about contra. I'm pretty sure everyone will know the game.

In the game, there are two character. I don't know the name of the character name. What I know, Player #1 will get blue color commando. Player #2 will get red color commando.

You'll get to run around shooting evil army, tanks, bunker, aliens and giant alien boss. Back then, that was the dope. I spent countless hour on the game.

Compared to today's video game, there are no autosave or save point. If your character runs out of life, it means you need to play it back from start. Just imagine the excitement when I manage to complete all the stages. Automatically, you have earn the bragging rights.

Then, who can forget Super Mario Brothers? Mushroom eating plumber that fights off Koppa army by stepping on their head, in order to save Princess Peach.

Also the annoying laughing dog when you failed to shoot the duck.

Those were the days where graphic don't really matter. Gameplay is the only thing that will hook you up.

Now as technology evolve. Graphic are getting better. Still, I haven't found yet, game that can replace the excitement of playing old games.

What I like about today's game, most of them have a cinematic storyline, and it give you the feeling that you are the character in the game.

I even cried when playing Last of Us. Hahahahahahaha

My PS4 game collection. Not a lot, but help to fill in the gap

Before I started back playing video games, I've tried other activities such as mount hiking, jungle trekking, weight lighting, and many more. But it only last for a moment.

Seems like video games is the only alternative hobby that last long

Yeah, plus we don't need to pay for monthly pass, PSN subscription, or any other crap just to play games.

@rosmadirazali Woah, I also got my first gaming console in 1994 and you're right, those cartridges cost roughly around RM70-RM100 each (it's damn expensive indeed)

I chose those 100/200/300 etc games in one, so I can play many games at once lol

That's an unforgettable childhood for sure...

the 100/200/300 games in one cartridge have many repetitive games. But with modification of course. Still, it is enjoyable to play.

We are getting old and older. Nostalgia is the only gift that we still carry from our childhood
