Newbies and Minnows Dilemma
Greetings!
My esteemed Steemians,
Introduction
Most of my postings lately were about newbies or minnows. I found that it is important to address some issues that may be relevant to some of us who are still new.
Newbie is the term that generally used to address someone who had just joined steemit.
Minnow is a term used to describe steemian with low SteemPower (SP).
Some newbie with extraordinary talent may leave the minnow's phase a lot quicker than the rest.
However, for the average newbies, it will take a while before we can reach the 500th mark SP. I have talked about the importance of SP on how it influences the value of your upvote. If we check a simulator in one of the tools at www.steemworld.org, you will know how much your upvote's value is.
Go on, it will be interesting.
The Journey
After we have gone through the newbie's phase, we are officially a minnow.
A small fish that constantly look out for dolphins, orcas or whales in the vast ocean called steemit.com. Not to be eaten, but to be seen and get help from them. Yes, that is how good it is to be in steemit.com's ocean. However, there are some that you need to avoid.
As a minnow, the only way to grow is by putting more weight on your upvote. Once your SP has reached 500, you can start adjusting the value of your upvote.
Dilemma? What dilemma?
After a while in this platform, sometimes it may cross our mind whether we want to continue to write or not.
The dilemma arises when we put high expectation on the value of our content.
If you talked to steemians that have been here much longer than us, They will share a similar situation. They qualified themselves to say it because at that time(as a newbie/minnow) nobody knows them yet. It is true, all of us are not yet known to the majority of the "fishes" inside the vast ocean of steemit.com. That is the reason why some of us who are still new may not getting an encouraging upvote.
Get over it! Have fun. Tell your story. Share your picture. Share your thought. Be creative. All these need time on our side.
We need to get acquainted with the time and need to have patience.
Plan on how to get the 500 SP
- Attract several steemians with humongous Steem Power (SP). They are who we normally referred to as a whale. Generally, they have more than 100000 SP. Let say, you managed to get 10 whales supporting you, each of them have approximately $27.29 per upvote. If all of them gave you 100% of their vote, you will get at least $272.9. Within 1 month, your Power Steem could have exceeded the 500th mark.
Bad news, It's not going to work
Build from the scratch. Your best bet to get your 500SP.
- Build a local network. Build a community. Most likely everybody would be still very new. As for example, @teammalaysia started sometime in May 2017. They were in this position. @bitrocker2020 together with several steemians recruited new members to join the platform. After a while, you may get spotted by a whale and they will start supporting your network. If you belong in this category, you are lucky because someone got your back. It may take a little bit longer than @bitrocker2020 have to achieve the 500SP, but you will surely going to reach your 500th SP. You may also have the chance to meet other steemians from this network. As the network grows bigger, we may be getting our own whale. How awesome would that be?
- Start on your own. What I meant here is a newbie minnow who hasn't got a local network The only way to grow, he or she has to join a community which is normally outside their own country. If you are in this category, it may take even longer for a minnow to increase and reach their 500 SP.
Most likely you will have to choose whether to continue to write or not. Dilemma.....
So, the most obvious plan to follow would be building your own network or joining a local community.
Once you are in your local community, be responsive to all comments you receive. Be genuine in your reply and always support each other.
Remember. We are still in the early phase of steemit.com
Thank you for reading.
