Mr.Noob Reviews >The Fall Part 1
Hi guys,
">The Fall" is an episodic game, meaning this game is broken into smaller chunks so that the developer will have more time to work on the future content while we get to play the early stage of the game.
Took me 6 hours to complete but if you are smarter than me then it might be less for you. So here is my review of the ">The Fall".
Story
There will be no spoiler here as the story itself is nothing new and the plot twist for some people can be spotted miles away. Nevertheless, it is still very interesting and makes me curious enough to continue and complete the game.
The dialogues and voice acting were very well done, even though it has a somewhat dark atmosphere to it, I do find myself chuckling from time to time.
Presentation
The look of the game reminds me of the style that "Limbo" or "Inside" took. Almost monotones look but yet distinguish. All the asset are in 3D but presented in a 2D fashion. Everything in this game has depth even though it's a side-scrolling game. The depth is more prominent as the player shine their flashlight onto an object.
It does show that the developer put a lot of thoughts into the design as the atmosphere of the game is very intriguing. The lighting and the particle effect are placed in a way to enhance the depth of field of the environment and not too clutter as the player can easily recognize a certain object by its silhouette.
Gameplay
The style of this game is considered to be a point and click adventure where the player solves puzzles by picking up an item or iterating with it. Clues are scattered all around the area to aid the player in solving the puzzle and so forth.
The layout design of ">The Fall" follows the style "Metrovania". Players will often revisit certain area either to pick up an item or to trigger a cut-scene for the game to progress. In a nutshell a lot of back and forth.
The combat style follows somewhat like the SNES Blizzard game "Blackthrone" Player will hide using camouflage or behind covers provided around that area. Then shoot at the enemy when not hiding. All of this happens in a 2.5D space.
For the combat system, I have a major complaint, unlike "Blackthorne" I can't aim backward without turning the body to face the other side. The player needs to bring up the gun before shooting. A lot of times, I was caught off guard because my gun is lowered.
The gun also acts as a flashlight, so every time you need to fire your gun, you need to switch the flashlight into a laser pointer. The player can still fire the gun but without the laser pointer, you have no idea where are you aiming at.
How you aim in this game is by moving the mouse up or down. It takes some time to get used to the rigid controls as you have to insert a couple of commands to be in combat mode.
You will able to see my frustration as I'm fighting the last boss.
Price
Well, I can't complain much about the price as there was a discount when I bought this game. This game is a Kickstarter project if you want to support the developer "Over the Moon" then you should pay the full price, it's not that much. But if you are low on cash, there should be a sales coming soon.
All and all, I do recommend you guys to try it out. The game is not long and not too expensive. But do keep this in mind that this game is not yet finished because it is episodic. I will start ">TheFall Part 2: Unbound" soon. So do stay tuned.
