RUM - BOOT - TON
Now guess, what is this?
OK yes yes... You win. That's only because almost everyone in the planet knows this.
To those that is clueless and thinks its lychee , sorry to disappoint, it not. It's Rambutan.
This is how you pronounce Rambutan. Ram as in Rum, But as in boot not butt, and AN as in Ton . Got it.. It's RUM-BOOT-TON
I'm not sure if anyone has other name for it, I mean.. Everyone I met local and foreigners calls it Rambutan. I'm sure there must be some other name for it some where, but since it's native to this region especially in Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia.
The fruit got it name form a Malay word RAMBUT means hair. As you notice, it's a hairy liking fruit.
It's does has similarities to lychee and Longan, particularly to the white flesh and seed in the middle, this is because they are close relative. Let's just say they are cousins. LOL. Like any other cousin, the outer part set them apart and it is truly noticeable.
Rambutan trees grows usually around 50 to 80 feet in height, if the low growing one it's easy to get them but its a tall tree, you will need a bamboo pole to get them, we call it "Kampung style"
The awesome thing about Rambutan is that the fruiting season is twice a year, what is not awesome, I notice my neighbor Rambutan tree that I usually steal fruits from only fruits toward year end. That sucks.
By the way, my neighbor knows now that I steals his Rambutan , he forgiven me and encourage me take it since he is not always around at his Kebun. So usually, if I notice it's fruiting, I would whatsapp him and tell him there is Rambutan now.
By the way, I borrow (Ehem) some of his TARAP too... I think he knows that too. .... Dammit.
Anyway, back to Rambutan. Some say it tasted blander than lychee, some , some say its sweeter , but one thing for sure the is that it is much denser and produce sweet and heavenly aroma if you take real notice of it.
Back to my neighbor Rambutan... It tastes like heaven.. Almost like the TARAP I've eaten alone last night. , read about them HERE
So how to eat Rambutan correctly?. Now this is the most important lesson. First, throw away the knifes, then throw away all utensils... Take your Rambutan, give it a little bite, somewhat like a love bite so just to have a cut on it, with that cut u can easily easily peel them off, take the flesh.. Give it a gentle kiss and bite it with all your heart, taste the sweet dense flesh in your mouth, have several bite on it, then swallow.
God dammmnittt. , how awesome it that. ??? Wow so delicious.. Yum yum.
Anyway, you can plant Rambutan tree too, just so long you lives in a tropical area. That the best place for Rambutan to thrive. So if you plan to plant Rambutan, perhaps when it all grown and fruiting, you can give me an invite me to do fruit testing... You know, to see and do all the quality test of course. LOL.
Cheers.
Rambutan good for you.
