Motivation Moment #8 - "What Keeps You UP at Night?"

I love this question.

When I'm coaching my clients... I often ask them a variety of perspective-giving questions. One of them would be this, especially when they are looking all stressed and worked-up, and in need of a long vacation.

And so..."What Keeps You UP at Night?"

  • Work-related stress like an upcoming big presentation or client meeting...
  • Examinations or assignments that are almost due...
  • Problems with certain key relationships...
  • Financial challenges that you know are creeping in...
  • Major life decisions that could alter the way you live...
  • And many more...

First and foremost, know that you are not alone. A research stated that in America, about 50-70 Million people have some sort of Sleep problems.

Well, whatever the case... if this is you (like me), here are 8 Quick Strategies that may help you Sleep Better!

  1. Cut Back on that Caffeine
    Perhaps there is a cut-off time for drinking beverages that are filled with Caffeine. Drink water or Teas like Chamomile, Rooibos or Ginger Tea.

  2. Lock Your Phone Up!
    Sleeping with your phone is not a great way to fall asleep. It is a does not allow your brain to shut-down and instead it puts your mind into overdrive.

  3. Cut Back on Late-Night Binging (especially Sweet Stuff)
    Enough said...

  4. Write in your Journal
    Writing down onto your notepad, journal or diary about the things you did or plan to do tomorrow will help you "transfer" all the thoughts into paper and lock it away for another day.

  5. Practice Slow Breathing, Meditation or Prayer
    This will help you get very quickly into a zone of calm and rest... The reverse could happen, if you exercise rigorously right before you sleep, this may cause your metabolism to jump up in the middle of the night!

  6. Think of Happy Thoughts
    Bed time is not the time to plot revenges. Reminisce of the good times, think of the amazing holiday that you took last year, maybe even fantasize about a future dream or goal.

  7. Eat Healthier = Eat Right
    When you fill yourself with the right Proteins, Fibre and Fresh Vegetables and Fruits, you will find your energy and ability to handle stress a whole lot better (without the unnecessary spikes)!

  8. Speak to a Counsellor, Mentor or Coach
    Many a times, our challenges just needs an EAR... go on share it to one of these professionals and they may be able to help you re-focus and get your life moving in the right direction.
