Hey guys!

I've been off the grid for a while now. I think it's the 10th time I open up a post with something like that.

The other day I looked at my steemd profile and I noticed... A cake! It's been 365 days since I signed up on steemit!

It's crazy to think that I've been on here since the 9th of April last year.

9th of April wasn't the first time I heard of Steemit though. It was way before that.

I can say that I've been keeping tabs on cryptocurrency since early 2014. Ironically dogecoin was the first coin I bought. And the rest is history up to the point where i read about this "Blockchain based Social Media" on an article by Cointelegraph. Specifically, [this] article.

I've always been on the sidelines of cryptocurrency. I dont have the money to be a whale, i dont have the coding skills to be a dev. I dont have the influence to be a shill.. Up until that point there is one big gaping issue when it comes to cryptocurrency. I guess it's still an issue today - Utility.

The best paved roads are useless if no cars drive on them.

All the big coins go on and on about how good they are but no ordinary folks like me actually use them. The network effect of those coins lies only on the fans and speculators. But not Steem.

You see, for the first time ever, ordinary people like you and me (well most of you) can join in on the cryptocurrency revolution and not only that, participate in a colloquially categorised "Generation 3" cryptocurency.

Man i signed up right there an then. At least i tried. If i had gotten an account by then my cake day would have been on November 2016. Damn i could likely be a whale by now if i stellabelled my way since the early days.

So yea... I've never really told people how i heard about steemit. At least not in a post.

So I guess Happy 1st Cake Day for me?
