Our first Steemit Ladies Bootcamp group photo in January 2018!

The growing number of women coming on board Steemit is amazing!

Although there are more men in the platform at the moment, I believe the number of women will multiply eventually and growing steadily.

Just like the Malaysian Steemians that wrote in Chinese (#cn-malaysia) or those specialised in hobbies like Creative Arts and photography, we feel the need to come up with our very own special tagging to represent us as well. And after posting our suggestions on the whatsapp group, we agreed to settle with #teammalaysiababes.

Ladies.jpg

Because Mothers or not, we can be babes in our own way all the way! Lols.

So far, we have created a Whatsapp group for the Newbies to get together with the not so Newbies (for guides, tips, share links & other infos), basically to aid the newbies ladies here in Malaysia.

We are definitely looking forward to our FIRST small get together pot luck soon (after Chinese New Year!) as we would love to get to know the ladies behind every wonderful and inspiring postings. At the moment, we know the handles but not the faces behind it.

Details of the get together will be posted up soon.

So what do we have planned in the pipeline?

TMB1.png
Created this for fun! But am sure there are better designs than this!

  1. Special T-shirt for the Malaysian babes – Shall we do a contest for fun ladies? Something like what Team Malaysia did recently is amazing!

  2. #TeamMalaysiaBabes Banner – Anyone can help us with a design?

  3. Other activities that we ladies can do together! – Definitely makan, coffees, movies and maybe trip someday? etc.

  4. One CSR activity – Maybe teach single and underprivileged moms how to Steemit?

These days we tagged all our postings with #teammalaysia and #teammalaysiababes both simultaneously so we can easily lookout for Malaysia women’s postings and upvote accordingly.

Ladies, if you are from Malaysia and would like to join our sisterhood, do come on board and join us! Or you can always get in touch with either me @angiechin28, @coloringiship, @carolfung, @francesaw or @patlu for info.

To get updated with future #TeamMalaysiaBabes activities, you can always search us under this hashtag! We welcome suggestions to keep the spirits and initiatives going!

NOTE: IF YOU DON'T MIND, PLEASE HELP US TO RESTEEM THIS POST SO IT CAN REACH OUT TO MORE WOMEN OUT THERE! Thank you!

Something About Angiechin28

Angie Chin is an Alpha Mom with a mission and founder of WonderWomen.Asia (coming soon), the first online portal in Malaysia that connects Women to affordable online learning, community activities, shareable contents, events, jobs and go-to market opportunities. At home, she’s a mommy to a 10 year old daughter, 6 furbabies + a grown babe. She loves travelling, cooking, exploring new food, reading and watching re-runs on Youtube.

Regularly posting up her ramblings and sharing contents (current favorities is Facebook & Instagram), she fell head over heels with Steemit after realising it’s the only platform that allows ANYONE to earn cryptocurrency by creating and posting up contents, even by liking, voting or commenting other people’s contents!

Whatever you do on the platform, you will earn. Isn’t that awesome?

To start earning, sign up for Steemit already! Post up your original contents and you can almost start seeing the ka-ching in your account before you know it. Best of all, it is FREE (Love the word FREE).

Life tagline (for now): Never be afraid to try anything once!

What's your number, will add you up @redtomato!

Do I provide it here?

Good question and better not because your number could go public, just email me at [email protected] and I will add you up.

Oh nice ! Somehow I wasn’t aware that there’s a whatsapp group for this jajaja :p anyway I think groups and initiatives that help the underprivileged are great but pardon me if I ask too much ... how is this different than what we’re currently doing for #teammalaysia (with @maverickfoo and @bitrocker2020 championing the causes :)). In my humble opinion, I think we are stronger as team Malaysia - as one- regardless of the gender :) because the guys and women altogether are very supportive in the group. Having a divided gender group will only confuse newbies frankly speaking... anyway, not trying to discourage but I truly think that #teammalaysia is stronger as one 💪🏽 As for newbie initiatives to help them, I think @davemccoy ‘s and @mudcat36 ‘s initiative for newbies are awesome. Head over to #newbieresteemday and you’ll see why :) I think that’s a solid initiative to truly help new members <3

Actually, @angiechin28, we have been discussing the teammalaysiababes tag. I appreciate the initiative really, to rally the female members of teammalaysia into a group/tag, and in the process motivate each other to be more active on Steemit, but I would question the effectiveness.

  1. You'll be sacrificing one tag, and will be left with 3. Strategically speaking, that 20% lesser chance of being discovered.

  2. Like @deborism mentioned, not sure if it's worth differentiating the genders, because I think we can grow better as a community. Interestingly, she told me she's not part of the WhatsApp group anyway.

  3. Further more, tags like steem-cartoon are for specific interests/purpose, just like how the cn-malaysia tag is for the chinese speaking Steemians. Not sure if teammalaysiababes serve a specific purpose like that.

  4. While I applaud the CSR initiatives, would it be nice if the rest of the community help too? Just like the charity drives we did, it's not compulsory for the members to help, but those who could join us, they did.

  5. If progression at Steemit is really the objective, I would suggest looking outside of teammalaysia even, definitely beyond just a subgroup. Steemit is a global community, and you can always join some of the other Discord groups dedicated to help new Steemians gain traction.

In conclusion, while I believe in supporting causes and interests, I can't say the same for specific gender groups. If the blockchain represents decentralisation, I think there's lesser need to distinguish ourselves based on something as primitive as our gender. Steemit group for single moms, yes. Steemit group for working mom, yes too. But Steemit group just for ladies, have you found an active one out there?

Anyway, here are just my thoughts.

Hi @maverick ...thanks for the feedback...macam baca karangan haha. Anyway, I was the one who suggested the tag. The main reason why I wanted a new tag specifically for us ladies is because, even though I have been a Steemian for awhile, I often feel lost scrolling through my newsfeed. I try to keep my following list short but I still struggle to find the posts I want to support. Hence, the tag. The tag makes it easier for us to find each other because as the group grows it's going to be very difficult to keep track of everyone.

Secondly, I joined Steemit in June and at that time there was only a handful of us Malaysians onboard. I found Simon and Kristian through the #malaysia tag. I was looking for fellow Malaysians, specifically women, to build friendship and to support each other. I know I can always connect with the ang mos (and I did and I became good friends to some) but somehow I still want to reach out to our fellow Malaysians because we share the same culture and we can meet up for makan2 and have a great time!

Thirdly, I am a work-at-home mom and because I have 2 young kids to care at home, I don't get to go out and about meeting people as often as I like. So I communicate through the Internet a lot. I love Steemit and spend a lot of time on this platform more than anywhere else. So it's natural for me to want to connect with like-minded people here.

Fourthly, I am passionate about helping women stay at home moms specifically, to earn income from home. When I invite them to this platform I want to assist them on how to use this platform as much as I can. We moms (or women in general) have some specific needs that only other moms (women) can fulfill. We have issues with kids, housework, jobs, relationships etc and we want to connect and assist each other as a community.

And of course, #teammalaysiababes is not just for mothers. It's for all Malaysian women who are on this platform and want to give support to each other here on Steemit or outside of this platform. We want to build genuine friendship beyond Steemit. We are not an exclusive club. We have to intention to break away from #teammalaysia. We do not promote gender inequality. Team Malaysia is very dear to me because I was there when Simon started it all. And of course, we will always support anyone not just those using the #teammalaysia tag but #steem-cartoon and #cn-malaysia as well.

I am sorry if anyone felt left out when they receive no invitation to the Whatsapp group. We have no intention to exclude anyone. And that's why @angiechin28 wrote this post, to invite anyone who is interested to be a part of our family. Also if they don't want to be in the Whatsapp group, that is fine too. The ladies are welcome to use the #teammalaysiababes, regardless they are in the group or not. You are a part of us and we will support you too.

My sincere apologies because my English sucks so I hope everyone can understand my points and not misunderstood :D

Looks like the comments are longer than the post now, haha!

Anyway, thanks for your replies. Like the way you articulate the points.

Frankly, when I saw @deborism commenting on this, I just thought of chipping in my thoughts as well. Didn't know it triggers such active responses. Good to know the girls are very close-knit.

Certainly looking for some of you to spearhead more Steemit Bootcamps, especially for the ladies edition. As you know, when @bitrocker2020 and I thought of the workshops, the idea is to raise the content quality of teammalaysia, and for that to happen, we need all the help we can get!

Cheers, and steem on!

We are looking forward to do more workshops for women, and it cant be just @maverickfoo or @bitrocker2020 all the time lah, pity you both because you both also have family, life and other commitments too.

Just train some of us up, share contents with us and we will do our part, #teammalaysiababes will always be a sister to #teammalaysia 🙌 When women base grow, so will Team Malaysia.

Ya the comments are definitely longer than the post XD...but it's great when everyone could leave their feedback. It's very exciting to see that teammalaysia has grown by leaps and bounds within several months. Kudos to you for your effort in conducting the bootcamps. The one you did with the underprivileged youths is my favorite. Being a kampung girl myself one of my dreams is to see more rural folks, especially the youngsters, come onboard and earn some extra income to help their families financially. But I know it's gonna take a long time but I am sure it's doable :)

That's exactly what I have explained earlier @maverickfoo and I thought you got it 😂 😂 And it takes @coloringiship having to explain it again - the longer way.

Thats why this is not just #teammalaysiababes tag but is also about sisterhood.

What's unique about Steemit is that we can always form groups under huge community but that doesnt mean we cannot collaborate with one another. Well if some other groups refuse to do so, that's their perogative. But to us, we are supportive of anything thats good for the community, its just that we represent the 'ladies'. It's not about not including men into whatever we do, or being feminist, because there ARE things that women feels better to keep amongst ourselves. Dont ask me why, because women can be complex at times! Lols.

So I hope this will clear about the tag issue. Frankly, I dont see it as an issue at all. It was never a secret from the beginning. You should really spend time to read more of our postings lah then you will know who we really are and whats important to us ladies 😁 😁

Hi Sifu @maverickfoo, frankly, I LOVE #TeamMalaysiaBabes Whatsapp Group initiated by @carolfung who added the participants of the first Steemit Bootcamp for Ladies there. Be assured, this is not a breakaway from #TeamMalaysia.

In addition...

  1. It's nice to be called 'babe' for a change instead of 'aunty' and sometimes 'uncle' because genetically I look more like my dad.

  2. #TeamMalaysiaBabes Whatsapp Group are a bunch of really helpful and supportive babes and they are funny too. Because it's a small group, it's like a closed door ladies's group where we can be ourselves and let our hair down -- without telling the whole world including #TeamMalaysia members, majority we do not know.

  3. Most importantly, I get instant help or answers from supportive senior babes and can follow the thread of conversations easily without being overwhelmed.

  4. Being a senior citizen, Whatsapp group chats are easier to read and to follow compared to Discord -- seriously painful for my aging eyes squinting at the tiny fonts against the black background AND I don't have to scroll up like crazy to catch up on all the posts in case I missed something important... so many posts posted within seconds of each other. Too fast. Don't you know ladies like it slow? >:)

Love you all at #TeamMalaysia.

Lols @patlu whoever says we are breaking away right? There was never a mention nor intention of breaking away. And I cringe to think how some could misunderstood why we would come up with a tag like that when we already have Team Malaysia. As far as I believe, we are still a huge family under one roof (Malaysia) and since Steemit is a dynamic community, there WILL be tags for hippies, vintage lovers, tech geeks, vogue grandmas even. I see its ok to tag ourselves with something we are comfortable with.

I'm surprised no one started MalaysiaBoleh tag yet and poke fun at our politicians too. ;) LOL!

Lols! That would be fun!

Thanks @maverickfoo! Panjangnya the feedback lols.

As explained to @deborism, we are still very much Team Malaysia as you can see in all our taggings. This sub group is not in anyway replacing it. Its just a group where we support sisterhood efforts.

  1. So far so good, its easier for us to locate especially some of us have no time to read all our girlfriends postings. Dont worry, we checked on the guys ones too.

  2. Shes welcome to join our whatsapp group anytime. Its not a secret society lols! When we created it initially it is for newbies and then we realise why not make it special, just for us ladies.

  3. Well, we might. We can have ladies initiatives, we will definitely share as we all grow together.

  4. We didnt say its not open to all :-) We definitely welcome everyone to join us in any CSR activities.

Its not about promoting gender inequality, its just a sub group that makes us ladies feel special and supported through our sisterhood's efforts. A sub group can never beat the main group which we are still very much part of. The sub group is like our tiny world where we can talk about anything that men wouldn't want to listen or know, lols. Rest assured we are in this for fun.

Right...

Thanks @deborism. Yes we are still very much #teammalaysia dont worry. Team Malaysia is our parent, we are just the anak. Thats why our posting still have #teammalaysia tagging. This sub group is just for fun to support sisterhood efforts and other activities that men wouldn't be interested lols! And Steemit is about community and I think its ok to have one as long as we stick true to our objective.

@deborism, I did mention this in previous postings, any ladies can join us if they want leh. Its not a secret at all lols.

Love the initiative 😊 ... count me in!! @angiechin28

Boleh @kaerpediem! Email me your whatsapp so we can include.
