14 days on Steemit

I'm coming up on two weeks on Steemit, and it's been quite a learning curve!

Some of my posts, such as 'Ethical Dilemmas and what to do about them' have been way more successful than I thought possible. Others, not so much - and I've yet to exactly discern exactly what makes the good one so much better (other than being upvoted by @curie). It's a work in progress, especially to overcome my ingrained twitter-training to post in short inflammatory bursts.

It's been fun though. For one thing, I came second in a newbies competition run by @deliberator - and have promised to run something similar myself.

More generally, I enjoy puzzling things out. The economics, social dynamics, and ethics of the STEEM blockchain holds plenty of these interlinked enigmas. Using tools such as steemnow, steemreports and steemd has helped me come to grips with the mechanics of the system, as well as highlighting some very interesting behaviour. The people/entities undertaking these actions know who they are - I'm not going to name them and risk getting squished. But they know who they are. And, if they are paying attention, they know that I know.

I don't know if they know that I know that that they know, but can't rule it out (Stop, just stop. This is what I was talking about in my intro post - not as funny as I think I am).

I don't know how all this is going to pan out. But, in the meantime, it's great to have the support of @teamaustralia. I hope that their efforts in helping out Aussies new to Steemit continue - and that in time I can do the same for the next wave of new steemians from down-under.

Anyway, it's a nice day here in Melbourne, and my veggie garden is looking a bit overgrown. If there's a good haul from it today, I might post some pics later. Until then, have a good weekend everyone!

Wait I want to know about these goings on!!! - personally I focus on getting that rep score up and accruing steem power I think that makes the biggest difference in seeing that payout grow over time- sometimes it’s totally the luck of being visited by a whale and garnering their favor were not worthy bows all around

If you are interested, http://www.steemreports.com/largest-interactions/ is one place to start. But you are correct, obsessing over the machinations of the big players isn't going to build reputation and followers.

I see all, the beauty of the blockchain - I know, probably everyone knows, but even if they dont know, the more intelligent of them will probably work it out it little sooner than the rest and one day perhaps everyone will know, but maybe its just social media after all and maybe no one knows or cares?

A vote from curie is always a good thing, they are doing some good work to build up smaller accounts and it really makes you feel good to see your work worth something well done.

Keep plugging away, I learnt from someone around here persistance is key.

Looking forward to some more articles from you.

People will figure it out - and the sooner they do, the better for the steem ecosystem (IMO at least). I think what I'm up against today is my inner contrarian and odd sense of humour. It's not enough for me to profit from finding people gaming the system, I feel like messing with them in the process - which is almost certainly a bad idea.

Yeah probably is a bad idea in the long run, I think we're all feeling the inner battle lately. I did enjoy the humour.

It sure is a steep learning curve, it's a whole new paradigm and almost a new form of language in some respects.

I'm glad you came to steemit @samueldouglas

I look forward to reading more of your posts and reading your insights into the platform.

Hey man, I'm glad you got me into it! Interesting times, that's for sure.

I had a look and can't say I understand the extent of it, but this "interesting behavior" seems disconcerting. Does that raise any red flags for you about the platform? Just curious to hear your thoughts.

I'm still forming my thoughts, and even when I do put them down in words, I'm unlikely to name names. For some of what steemit needs to deal with, we can safely kick the can down the road for a while yet. Other issues (as you may have noticed) might come to a head sooner rather than later. Either way, I want to get a bit better idea of the expected norms of this place before I discuss delicate subjects with any degree of specificity.

As for red flags, I'll just say this: steemit and the steem blockchain are not cures for the moral failings we see in all human institutions (or any time more than a handful of people try to do something). Do your due diligence, and don't invest more money and/or time than you can afford to lose.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting - it's much appreciated.
