Birthing Tree

Good morning Steemians I trust you had a great Monday.

I thought I would follow from yesterdays post and provide some more cultural and historical information.

Pictured above is an Aboriginal birthing tree which has had its trunk holllwed out.

Unfortunately this one has been marked for removal but a few committed locals are gathering to save the tree.

Birthing trees are where expectent mothers would go to deliver their young and would spend the first 4 - 6 weeks of their childs birth. The hollowed tree trunk would act as a room to protect the baby from the elements.

This tree is located on the outskirts of Melbourne but unfortunately has been marked for removal for a freeway.

Which is quite sad, as this is not my culture only but all of Australian's culture and history.

Aboriginal Business is everyones business and we all need to work together to ensure history is protected.
