Mail Exchange Hotel, Melbourne

Well im back in Melbourne again this week! I decided to start documenting a little more, i made one post last week then got so busy with work i didn't get a chance to make any more, or really explore, but thats what im trying to do this week :)

Lunch today was at a pub i found called The Mail Exchange Hotel, for some reason its hard to find old school pubs in the city, maybe they are all hiding? It is a beautiful building.

This is from their website:

"A stroll down memory lane;
Established on the land of Sir Robert Hoddle, first surveyor of Melbourne, the Mail Exchange Hotel is one of the city’s best storytellers.
Once Melbourne’s iconic Mail Centre, you’ll enjoy this heritage-listed building which has undergone many transformations over the past century. But thankfully, it’s still embedded with pieces from the past, including its original vault doors."

[Sir Robert HODDLE?] heh

Since its doors opened to the public, the Mail Exchange Building has been known as the Chief Parcels Office, the Parcels Post Building, the Postal Workshops and the general Post Office. Eventually, the building took on the name of Melbourne Mail Centre and later the Mail Exchange. You can still see the signage on this historic structure today. The Post Master General's Department utilized this space for a time, as did Australia Post before the building was acquired by the Figgins Shoe empire, which used it as their Headquarters.

When Figgins Shoe relocated, the building underwent a series of progressive and noteworthy, internal and external upgrades giving us the new Mail Exchange Hotel with a "200 seat bistro, stunning central bar, atrium with internal courtyard, informal lounge areas and free Wi Fi."

.. yeah.. we going back =^_^=

These are some pictures i took today whilst there, and of my lunch, this place has a lovely vibe to it, its not too bright inside more so warm light and cosy corners, i love pubs with couches :) It seems like a good local, trivia nights, special deals, people can have a punt if they like with a gaming section, and there's also a separate restaurant area if you dont want the pub grub [which is exactly what i wanted! Hearty pub food is the closest i am going to get to a home cooked meal while i am away lol.]
