How much do STEEM witnesses get paid? you might be surprised ..or maybe not !!
I have always wondered , thanks to @themarkymark 's comment on the latest Steemitblog's post I got some idea about the monetary incentive of the witnesses.
In the same post it is mentioned that witnesses get 15% of printed Steem , I imagine if/when the price picks up the range of 0-100k USD$ also goes up with the multiple of price increase. Witnesses need to compensated , I get that , but as you would read in the comments the incentives to run full nodes are NOT aligned with the economic incentive.
- Assuming that the misaligned incentives are a valid problem , how do we go about making a change to correct such incentive?
- Where do we vote/where do we comment to prioritize these corrections?
- Is there a feature request queue ( for non devs) outside of github where community can voice their need directly to the development team?
@berniesanders wrote a critical post sometime back about the expectations from witnesses , how do we extend the development efforts outside of STEEMIT inc to witnesses ? is it fair to expect witnesses to be blockchain developers ?
Can anyone suggest a pathway ?

I'm of the unpopular idea the cheese should be spread a bittle lit better.... because the top 20 witnesses make a lot and i do mean a lot more than the 21+
So in most cases for a witness in 28-29 position to run a node is asking him/her to take a big financial burden (if they dont have a business on steem already)
so how do we align the incentive of - who makes the most money should take the most resource intensive task of running full node?
Where do we vote for that?
There is no direct way of doing that, we just have to make sure that when we are voting for witnesses we are doing so because they deserve it...
Some don't advertise.. @ausbitbank runs a full node, you would not know this unless you dug. But there are some peeps that imo are not doing enough... that opinion however is subjective... but, i vote my conscience.
I also hear that most of the plebs vote don't really matter as couple of whales are the king maker , would love to see some numbers on that...

Good point, but, you are also not taking into account some simple maff here...
Yes its true a whale puts us plebs at a disadvantage, but its also our fault (not specifically you and me) for not taking back some of the power.
We have a giant portion of the steem-citizens powering down and not taking back control of our would be democracy.
Imagine if we had 20% of Steemians with over 500 SP on their wallets.
Now, discounting the botty bots and alts... let's say we got 1 million actual people here (some active, some inactive, but with casted votes)
We could be talking about enough sway... as we have it today.. 500SP or more in the wallet is part of the 1% - yet we have thousands and thousands of accounts with reps over 60 who obviously made more than that just posting with dust accounts.
So, who's fault is it... I mean, really?
Short term thinking is what got us here in the first place.
I think we need public education ( propaganda) and culture of defining - what is an ideal Witness ?
What do we expect from a perfect witness and see who is a closest match to the same.

Some witnesses don't contribute anything to the platform beyond blogging or being a whale so they don't deserve the pay. But there are some witnesses who run DApps and affiliated websites who deserve Steem for improving the use case of the blockchain. I don't like when people beg for votes when they aren't doing anything useful
