Hand burning
I was asked to make an end of season servicing tray for a soccer coach but to get the kids names laser engraved into it.
Currently my laser guy is I Thailand and is in the process of selling all his stuff. With the steem prices being so shit I haven’t been able to buy it all off him. So I had to go back to some old school pyrography.
This is slow tedious work and relies upon working with the grain structure of the timber.
The picture is of a test piece all 100% freehand. Yes I know my soccer ball looks like shit.
Hopefully in the next bull run I can pick up my own laser and Cnc machine.

Your soccer ball is all right, just decide whether you're using pentagons or hexagons and stick with that ;D Your test piece looks okay though, thought it was going to be the actual thing but you hadn't done the kids' names yet. Not a big fan of the pyrography then?
I hadn't progressed to hexagons, they were a kind of proprietary shape that hadn't been named yet, probably apt to call them shitagons.
Pyro guys are incredibly talented, I'm just not one of them, I can't draw for shit so I'm not a fan of it. I certainly appreciate the art form though.
Not bad at all mate. How dangerous would it be to get the kids to come and write their own names.. probably very, and time-consuming too, but wouldn't that be a nice touch.
Is the circle freehand? I'ts almost perfect, which would make you officially a psycho if you did it freehand...
It is certainly time consuming, you need to move at about 1/10th of the speed of normal writing. Plus you have the heat of the pen burning your hand.
Better equipment it's not as bad, but I rarely do it, so I only have very cheap stuff.
And no, i traced the circle. Obviously as @ryivhnn points out, the internals of the ball are "unique"
Are u gonna resin it in the end? Cos another option is to print out a design with the kids names on transparent film, fix it on the timber and then resin over it.
that is just WAY too much hard work. You forget that I'm hella lazy.
The idea came about from 12 months ago I had the kids write their names on a bit of paper in their own hand writing, then I scanned it and had their own handwriting lasered into a board. Works good for kids drawings as well.
Ahh well thats heaps simpler! The resin would have really complicated matters.
