Whether you're a local to the area, or in search of somewhere new to explore, if you need a great spot to take the kids then don't look any further than Yankalilla Skate Park.

There are a range of facilities at Yankalilla Skate Park that will suit most families looking for a stop on their way down the Fleurieu Peninsula, or a great day out, which will leave your kids with a smile.

Located 73km South of Adelaide and only 34km from the popular Victor Harbor, Yankalilla is definitely a place you should visit.

Start with the Skating, of Course

To start this off, we're going to talk about the obvious one here. Despite the wide range of activities, being called Yankalilla 'Skate Park' makes the Skating aspect of the park the biggest draw card.

If you've got a budding skater, regardless of age, they'll no doubt be excited by the different skate park sections that cater to skaters ranging from novice to the more advanced.

If skating isn't your thing though, it's certainly not the only incentive to come and try this place out.

Enclosed Playground

For those not old enough for skating, or simply not interested, there is a playground, safely enclosed to make it easier on parents with little ones who might try to run off.

The playground is brightly coloured with a variety of equipment for children of almost any age to play on, has access ramps, and is a great way to get them out in the warm sun to play for hours on end.

Getting Some Much Needed Exercise

As well as the Skate Park and the playground, there are basketball rings and even outdoor gym equipment to get people moving and as active as possible.

The outdoor gym equipment has signage that explains how to use each machine and what parts of the body the equipment is targeting, despite this area being generally aimed at an older demographic, the young ones have fun using these machines as well. It's a great way for parents to sneak in a quick workout for themselves while watching the kids out on the playground.

If you'd prefer to get some exercise while spending time with your children, a family game of basketball could be the way to go. This park is all about encouraging outdoor activities and exercise for people of all ages.

How About Lunch?

While Yankalilla Skate Park is just down the road from the local shops such as the Yankalilla Bakery and Yankalilla Takeaway, if you'd prefer to cook up something yourself you could stop at the Foodland on your way in and cook it on one of the barbecues available for use at the Yankalilla Skate Park.

There are two sheltered barbecues for public use, both next to tables to sit at once your lunch is cooking, and near a wide open patch of green grass, which is great if you'd prefer to sit out in the sun on a comfy picnic blanket instead.

After lunch, kids can run free and burn off any extra energy in the grassed area without you having to worry about them running out onto the main road.

Worth A Visit? …We Think So

Once you've seen just how much your family and friends can do at Yankalilla Skate Park, it will become a family favourite for many years to come. The facilities of the park really do encourage physical activity and playing in the outdoors, which is something that we should all be doing more of, and it encourages people to come together for outside activities.

So, next time you're looking for an idea for a family outing, hopefully you'll make the drive out to Yankalilla to give the Skate Park a try.

That's God's country down there. I haven't been to Yankalilla for years, but it's only half an hour from me. Might take the kids and try out my new VR camera.
Top post, mate.

the whole coastline down there is amazing.

I dived on the scuttled HMAS Hobart off Wirrina Cove resort about 10 years ago.
Also a night dive under Rapid Bay jetty.
Highly recommend, although seals darting past (at the limit of your torches reach) are terrifying.

Sounds awesome :D
