Historical Deep Creek Bridge

in #teamaustralia7 years ago (edited)

Over the weekend the Explore Adelaide team went for one of their usual Adelaide Hills drives. We came across a sign saying "Historical Deep Creek Bridge" and decided it was worth checking out.

We are so glad we stopped. At the end of the short track we found the bridge, surrounded by thriving greenery.

The Deep Creek Bridge is an excellent hidden gem of the Adelaide Hills that's definitely worth the trip.

The bridge was beautifully crafted in 1867, and in 1992 was carefully restored over a period of 3 years. It's full of history and is a beautiful place to see. Here are just a couple of reasons why this place is one of our new favourites.

The original bridge was constructed in April - June 1867, and restored by the local community between 1992 and 1995

The Adventure

The walk to the bridge is part of the wonderful experience. The walking track to the bridge is a fire access track and is full of beautiful and lush vegetation.

There are fallen trees across the track which further adds to the picturesque views of the walk, and makes it feel like a proper adventure.

Though the trees don't require much skill or fitness to climb over, it unfortunately means the walk is not ideal for those requiring wheelchair accessibility. The Deep Creek Bridge is located only a short distance down the track so it should be easy to reach for children as well as adults.

It is likely you'll see lots of wildlife. The area is filled with native birds and even some koalas. Just make sure to keep a look out for snakes on hotter days.

A Place for Quiet

Whether you're looking for a quiet spot to relax or a beautiful spot for a family picnic, the historical Deep Creek Bridge will suit your needs.

It's not every day you find something with 150 years worth of history attached to it.

The tranquillity of this natural setting is astounding. It will become your new favourite place to relax. It certainly has become one of ours.

The Location

The Deep Creek Bridge is located just off of Lobethal Road between Ashton and Lenswood. There is a sign on the side of the road. Turn in next to the sign and you can park your car near the start of the track, just make sure you do not obstruct the gate. You'll find the bridge is only a short walk away.

So if a peaceful walk to a beautiful bridge is something that sounds great to you, then we would highly recommend you check out the Deep Creek Bridge in the Adelaide Hills.

If you know of any other hidden gems around South Australia like the Deep Creek Bridge don't hesitate to tell us about them. We'd love for you to message us or comment on https://www.adelaideexplorer.com/

Thanks, I need to start taking my camera out with me rather than just relying on the phone.

This looks more adventurous than Sydney harbor or Perth opera. ;)

This is a great find. I wish I had access to your posts when I lived in Adelaide many years ago.

Nothing stopping you coming down for a visit though ;)

Another place we didn't see in Oz - thanks for sharing!

You'll have to pencil it in for your next trip :P
